According to DirecTVs site, I am unable to get my locals in HD. (Zip = 65803 in Springfield, MO)

Is there a package or option that can give me network (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) HD channels from a different city?

If not, is there anything in the pipeline (other than making the locals available) that will help me out with this issue?

Thanks!

SAtickman,
First of all ... :welcome to the site !!!

Are you saying that D* doesn't carry your locals in HD, or that your locals are not broadcasting in HD ?
If you are in an area that is not covered AND you cannot get your locals with an OTA antenna, you may be able to request waviers, but they are getting fewer and fewer to find available.

From looking at antennaweb.org, it looks like you should easily get your locals with an OTA antenna, indoor or outdoor type.
So if D* does not have them available it should not take much to get them.

Thanks for the welcome!

My locals do broadcast in HD, however, I'm likely moving about 40-50 miles away where they probably won't come in. How does one go about successfully doing this wavier thing?

Thanks!

When you arrange your move through Movers Connection, mention it and request that they file for waivers. There is no fee to file, but if you do qualify and are granted waivers by the networks in the nearest city/DMA, you will have to pay something like $2/DNS channel you receive. They used to do East and West Coast DNS, but I don't think they do that anymore, so you would only get one coast's DNS. Being in Springfield (or close to that) not sure if that would be East or West since you are so darn near the center of the country.

There is no harm in asking...even if you lived next to the tranmission towers for your local market, you are free to ask anytime. The worst they can say is no, then you have to consider a long range (or deep fringe) antenna. Mine is the Phillips 51-element dual boom antenna (from Lowes) and it has a range of about 100 miles (85 for a solid lock on digital channels). All of my networks from about 20-25 miles come in flawlessly. I am confident that beyond 50 miles, they would come in clear too.

Best of luck, and keep us posted... :)

You should still be able to get them OTA at only 40-50 miles away. That's not that far unless you have a mountain in the way. Waivers are up to your local stations. If they say you can get a signal then you won't get them.

Also keep in mind that DirecTV will be linking up the rest of the markets in HD over the next year or so. At least that is their plan once D11 launches in December.

Go to this site, DirecTV DNS Eligibility, and put in your address. It will tell you if you are eligible for any SD or HD locals. If any of the HD networks show that you are eligible then call D* and ask about getting the HD DNS networks. I was eligible for three out of the four networks and had them turned on the same day. There is no extra charge if you subscribe to the HD package.

I have all four even though at first I was eligible for only 2 of them. I called the local stations and told them where I was and they let me have the others.

If I recall correctly, Springfield Mo is scheduled to get HD Locals from D* in the next go round. Probable in the next 3-4 months.

Same here. They will also file the waiver if needed. I had to request a waiver from FOX.
