Questions RE: ditching the 811 for the 942?

Assuming the rumor about existing customers being able to pay $250 to rent the 942 starting in May is true...

I have a 721 & an 811 to the same TV. I'd like to replace the 811 with the 942. I think I want to keep the 721 since it's been a rock solid unit, then I could use the 942 solely for HD recording.

A few questions:

  1. I haven't had the 811 for quite a year yet. Will E* have a problem with that?
  2. I have a Dish 500 & a Dish 300 coming into a DP 34 with 3 cables coming into the house (2 for the dual tuner 721 and 1 for the 811). There's 1 "outlet" called "to receiver satellite in 4" on the DP 34 not being used. I assume I just bring in a cable from that port to the other tuner on the 942, and that's it.
  3. Does it make sense to do it this way, or do you see a real benefit to keeping the 811? I only have 1 TV in the house. I figured this way, I can continue to record all SD content on the 721 thereby freeing all real estate on the 942's HDD for HD only.
  4. I also have my OTA coming in to the 811. I assume I just plug it into the 942. And (somehow I missed this), can I record OTA-DTV with the 942?

Ditch 811 for 921

Sounds good, keep the 811 on the account till the 1 year is up and upgrade then or now to the 921 when the 1 year for 811 is up call and cancle, then return the 811 to dis, (assuming you are renting the 811) I have the same set up a 721 and an 811, I want a hd dvr so i will use the 721 for sd, and the 921 for hd.

If you own the 811 they won't accept a trade. Also I'm hearing that existing customers can not lease the 942 but it never hurts to ask. Bare in mind that a new generation of receivers may be released within a year time frame but if you must have a HD DVR now then you can purchase the 942 ($700) or 921 ($550).
You'll need two lines from your DP34 (perhaps just one more if you omit the 811's) to the DVR.
Use your existing OTA antenna for the new DVR to continue receiving HD locals.
Need a phone line for the 942 else they'll charge you $5/mo.
Also there's a $5 PVR fee unless you subscribe to EverythingPak.

You won't be able to keep 811 in operation unless you cascade another DP34 or get a DPP44 switch with separator(s). Also addition $5 for third receiver would apply.
