Calibrating question

A friend has an older rear projection HDTV (I don't know specifics) that looks to me that the light guns are not aligned properly. The picture looks fuzzy and I think I can even see edges of different colors. Would a calibrator be able to fix this issue? I listened to the THX guy on the podcast the other night and it sounds like he did changes in software on TVs and not charges to hardware, but maybe he just did not get into that part of his job. This seems like it is a hardware issue.

It depends on the TV. My old CRT based RP TV had an array of tiny potentiometers inside the back panel, each one altered horizontal or vertical convergence of red or blue in a different section of the screen. I would set up a mirror and align it every now and then. It would last a year or two before it needed it again.

My parent's TV had an alignment menu you went into and you could move the guns around to align with the remote.
