Cal Ripken's mom kidnapped, now safe

AOL teased this story without saying who the player was. I thought it was about another Latin American player from Venezuela having a family member kidnapped for ransom. I was shocked to see that it was Cal Ripkin's mother. I'm not trying to make light of the troubles in Venezuela(kidnapping is wrong wherever it happens),you just don't expect to hear stuff like this here in the U.S. But then Michael Jordan would beg to differ on that opinion.

I will try to not make this too political...but you have no idea how common-place it is in South America and I am very surprised that it has not happened more often.

Wow, scary stuff their. Wonder why Ripken wasn't at the HOF ceremonies?

That's why I initially assumed that it was a Latin American player whose mother was kidnapped because of the rash of kidnappings that take place in places like Venezuela,Colombia,& now Mexico. With all of the things popping up in the news lately(the theater shooting & now Cal Ripkin's mother being kidnapped),it leaves the impression/perception that NO PLACE is safe any more.
