Cablevision Launches Network DVR In The Bronx - $11 A Month For 160GB of Storage | DSLReports.com, ISP Information
While it is a cable vision specific service, I bet other cable companies jump on this bandwangon soon. That is why I posted this in the gadget section. It is a new gadget, the network DVR.
While the storage space of 160 GB is skimpy, I hope that it increases soon. Records 4 shows at once is nice. I wonder how long before they start selling extended storage options. It essentially operates as a whole home DVR since you can watch from any TV in the house. Also interesting that you can record 4 things at once while you watch whatever you want on any television at the same time. You have pause rewind, etc on live TV. So, a very flexible service.
I can see why it is so attractive to cable companies. They keep all the DVR stuff in house where they can service it. They can use large disk farms instead of having to make individual boxes for every house. They of course had to battle in court for a few years to get the right to do this.
