Cable Length

I have an old BUD which I plan to replace with a motorized 3 ft dish, However the trees are closing in on me. I can mount the new dish on the other side of the trees where I have a clear view across the horizon. However this will add about 100 ft to the cable.

Will this extra length cause problems? Can they be overcome?

is the bud still usable ? just put it in the loop with a diesqc switch
whats the current length to the bud ( if you are going from the end of the buds run)
more cable shouldn't be a problem each receiver acts a bit differently but most handle 200 - 250 ft runs . now you might want to use a good shielded coax , preferably quad shielded.

The BUD is usable, but with the trees closing in, it has a limited view.

I was going to just extend the BUD cable by about 100 feet for a total of 160 feet.

I am running about 200' right now to my Bud and 3 other dishes currently in operation. I find that DiSEqC switches can be a problem at that distance. I have several switches I have tried out there but only a Pansat one works reliably. But other than that I think it will be OK.

In my current arrangement I have about 100' from receiver to diseqc switch, then more coax to the separate dishes. I can use either the 103G PCI card (in a 1.8GHz box) or my Coolsat as receiver. Mostly the reception from all dishes is the same on both receivers, except for G13 on a mesh 10 footer a further 60' away. BBC World comes in perfect on the Coolsat but is a total wipeout on the 103G, all other parameters remaining the same. As noted by George it seems to matter a lot what receiver you are using.

You could try using RG-11, it is better for extra long cable runs. Unfortunately, however, most standard compression tools won't work on the fittings
