cable and satelite thru one dvd recorder

hi i have a toshiba dvd recorder it is hooked up and recordeds ,
one question is there some way to by pass the recorder, so i can watch tv and not have recorder on all the time.

You mean without turning the power on? Most likely the video outputs that you use require power.

So, what you need to do is to bypass the DVD recorder completely: use a separate set of video cables to connect the satellite box to your TV set. Then you will be able to switch the video source with your TV remote. If you can tell us specifics about your satellite box and your TV set (the model numbers) we might be able to give you more detailed instructions.
