If I get a C41-100 client from someplace other than DirecTV, do I still have to get them involved or is it just plug and play?

:welcome to Satelliteguys trojwl!

I'm not sure, but I think you would be able to install it yourself, as long as you have a Directv approved swm installation.

Have no idea what swm means. That's the problem with abbreviations.

It was installed by DirecTV tech if that's what you mean.

Single wire multiswitch. Press and hold the info key, then click on more system info. If you have a swm setup, it will show there. Since you are asking about adding a client, I assume you have a Genie, which requires a swm setup.

While tooling around in the menus I found a "Add a Client" tab. Looked pretty straight forward. Think I will get a new client and try it myself. How hard can it be? Thanks for the info.

You have to call DirecTV to activate it. At this time, there's no way to activate clients online from what I've seen.

From DirecTV

$99.00 cost of client (they call it a "receiver").

50.00 activation charge.

6.00 extra monthly for rest of my life.

WHAT A RIPOFF!

Probably will do without TV in garage.
