Buying HD rcvr

Does any one know how well the process of buying your own HD rcvr from ebay or elsewhere works. Does dish charge you to send back the rcvr i am replacing(not hd). They want a 100.00 bucks to upgrade from SD rcvr to HD rcvr so i though it may be worth my time just to buy one i already rent 2 HD boxes from them already. Also could i purchase another HD dvr rcvr,will it work without them coming out just by activating it? The rep on the phone told me i couldn't rent another dvr rcvr but i like the 622 i have now Thanks for the info

Can do but be sure and R and S numbers and verify with Dish that there is no balance and that someone is not trying to sell you a leased receiver
