BSG Season 3.5 on Scifi, 1/21/07 & 3.0 on UHD 1/27/07

B5 had a defined story arc. 5 years was the time-frame. It was a blast, but I wanted more episodes (hell, I even dreamed more stories...which was pretty weird...)

BSG is, in my opinion, a "closed-ended" show as well. The "this has all happened and will happen again" stuff, 4 more cylon models of the final 5 now revealed, the occupation of New Caprica, etc...

They've sort of written themselves into a corner, in a sense. They can't do the "Cylon attack of the week", as that'd be pointless and get old. "Ship in a bottle" stories get old too. Starbuck's supposedly been to Earth and finding the occasional "food stop" planet has been done.

They need to do something really show-shattering in 2008 (stupid planning) or the ratings will sink.

And I agree, if BSG doesn't do well and/or ends, it leaves Sci-Fi sitting their hands wringing wondering what to air...

The original BSG really started to deteriorate when they got to earth. The whole running around in secret trying to improve earth tech was getting silly. Not to mention thowing in time travel... How do you know time travel happened? everyones uniform turned white...

This unfortunately was probably the season they could have stretched out longer. They could have had the rebellion on NC take all season. Then next season do the part after ending where this season ended. Baltar could have spent much more time on the cylon ships. I really liked the part told from the cylon point of view.

ST:Voyager had the same "lost in space" problem, except in the ST universe, there are always NEW aliens to encounter. BSG just has the cylons. All "M-Class" planets in BSG have no higher life-forms whatsoever. Indeed, no wildlife ever depicted.

They probably never show any other humanoid life on other planets to heighten the idea that these are the last humans. Show too many populated planets (ala star Trek) and that 40,000+ number loses its meaning. Well... maybe.

I wasn't actually saying I wanted them to find sentient beings; just that by virtue of the fact that its just them and the toasters, it limits story-lines as they continue their "trek" (pun intented) towards earth.... ;)

I suppose they could find a planet inhabited by Amazonian women (what is this thing you speak of called 'love'?). That could generate ratings :D

Didn't the original BSG run across the occasional occupied planet? Of course, it was usually some Cylon slave planet and a trap for the Colonial Fleet, but there were other worlds with someone to talk to.

I think I remember one on an ice planet... mostly because they kept referring to the cylons as 'tin cans'. Maybe that was an inspiration for 'toasters'.

I haven't figured out what happened to my recording of Maelstrom, it is missing in action on my 622! I hope this isn't L405-related...
