I haven't had a dog in almost 10-years due to my being single and traveling, working long hours, and/or spending a lot of time commuting to and from work. Although I have dated a lot of women who had dogs over the years, I'm finally in a position where I have the time to devote to raising and training a family friend.

Anyway, after searching high and the past 3-4 months (lot of sh!tty puppy mills out there), I picked-out this cutie 3-weeks ago and will be picking her up from Oklahoma this weekend. We can't wait.

Anyone else with a puppy and or planing to get one?

There is a little lab puppy on the next block that likes me and trys to follow me home any time she sees me. I know her name well as the owner is always screaming it at the top of his lungs, Mya! My wife wants to keep her. My cats are not impressed. ;)

My wife and I have had dogs all our lives, and every one of our four-legged family members have been shelter rescues, not from commercial breeders. Our last dog left for the Rainbow Bridge two years ago, and given our advanced ages and mobile lifestyle, we don't think it would be fair to take on a puppy that would likely out live us. We are thinking about an older dog adoption though...

LOL! She's an adorable Weimaraner, which is perfect since we're both very active...daily walks, weekend hikes, etc. I dated a gal for 3-years...one because I liked her, and 2 more because I loved her Weim. LOL!!! Anyway, we moved into a new home (Thanksgiving Weekend) and our neighbors brought home two boxer puppies after the New Year, and the other neighbors have dogs so she will have plenty of playmates. I'm going to start her off by feeding her IAMS large breed puppy chow and, over time, transition her to eating a mix of IAMS large breed dog food and my homemade organic meals (organic chicken and beef, egg, sweet potato, rick, green beans, peas, bone meal, etc.)

Now...we've got an 11-year old cat who need to warm-up to the idea of having a puppy in the house. She won't be happy!!!

Enjoy your new friend.

I adopted a St. Bernard last fall to go with my beagle mix. Dogs are great!

Organic dog food?
Yeah.
My girlfriend is vegetarian, but we cook a couple of whole chickens and 2-3 large beef roasts every week to feed her terriers. Plus sweet potatoes, rice, spinach, eggs, etc. Those dogs have never eaten from a can.

A beautiful dog that you have. I hope that the both of you will enjoy each other's company for a long time.
