October is the offical launch date for the new packages IN HD!

In summary 70 HD Channels are expected to lauch in October, as the Directv CFO said some time within the next 30 days. HD DVR is the wave of the future and most upgrades and requests are for an HD DVR. Mike also said that a merger with echostar would be wonderful, but he doesnt think it could happen unless the reglitory approval changes their minds. He also thinks its too early for any changes even if the XM and Sirius merger gets approved. Also, The merger would be expenisve as smartcards would have to get swapped and equipment.

Directv said that HD DVR is becoming main stream as most request are for this. There expecting when the costs of the boxes come down there expecting a increase in people wanting these boxes.
