Blu-ray.com - Blu-ray News - Blue Ray Technologies Opens First Plant

Blue Ray Technologies has completed the development of their first Blu-ray production plant in Spokane, WA, and is now pressing Blu-ray discs. The plant is the first true indie Blu-ray plant owned and operated in the US, and will allow independent studios and directors to have their HD content put on Blu-ray discs and distributed to the world.

"independent studios and directors"

Gee, I wonder who this might include. ;)

A word to the wise - when you get your news from Blu-ray.com, you only get the Blu Koo-Aid version.

Blu-ray.com said:
When asked about rival format HD DVD, Hansen said, "The competition is over. Blu-ray won."

In the actual Press Release, while BRT Chairman Hansen did say that (with a company name of "Blue Ray Technologies, you would kinda expect him to be pro-BD), he also confirmed the new plant will also produce HD DVD.

Also in the official Press Release, I thought it was interesting that pointed out that current Blu-ray disc production is almost exclusively controlled by . . . . you guessed it - Sony.

The development is significant because the major studios, led by Blu-ray creator Sony, control most of the world's production of Blue-ray discs -- mainly in Asian plants. Mini-majors, Indie studios, TV companies and record labels would have to stand in line and pay high costs to get Blu-ray product out for the rapidly-growing market.

Gee, I wonder who this might include?

Probably anyone who is not one of the Hollywood Big 8 who doesn't want to take a number and stand in line to beg Sony to spare some BD capacity for them. ;)

Yes, there's a group that Sony refuses to support directly, but allows others to produce Blu-ray for.......:p;)

Hansen is so sure of that future, he wants to be a major buyer of catalogs and new release rights in HD formats. "Blue Ray Technologies (www.blueraytechnologies.com) is here buying content for worldwide release to create a new and deeper penetration for the Blu-ray market."
Blu-ray (the generic name) has a rival format, HD-DVD, which BRT will buy as well. Though Hansen says, "The competition is over. Blu-ray won, with more than a million players in the U.S. market and growing."

HDDVD is just a cliffs note in this article, the bold text is all the koolaid you need.

See "300" bd SALES :)
