Blu ray picture question

I am going to buy my first blu ray player. I was wondering does blu ray movies have the black bars at the top and bottom of the tv screen like widescreen dvds?

Depends on the OAR of the orginal movie (Original Aspect Ratio) but most likely depending on the movie...

Based on the movie's aspect ratio as stated above; most movies YES; and this is the way it should be. I do not want my movies to be chopped, cropped, zoomed or pan & scanned; I want them exactly as filmed.. IF you have an expensive auto-masking FPTV screen then it can compensate but most of us don't spend the extra money for this feature.

Ive never seen any. All HD TV shows are 16x9, so should not have to worry about that.

Yes there are some 4x3, but really rare. But more are coming. Mostly old classic movies.

If you don't like OAR movies, learn to use the zoom feature in your monitor.
