Several months ago our 4’ Channel Master motorized dish became misaligned during a storm. Due to lack of time and not wanting to miss the Saturday night British shows on Montana PBS (AMC21) I found that if I decreased the declination from 24 to 20 degrees on the SG2100 motor Montana PBS came in clear with a signal of 80% on the Coolsat 4000. For the next several weeks this dish remained at AMC21, because signal from all other satellites was lost. One evening last week I adjusted the declination to 22 degrees and gained back all the other satellites (Amazonas 2 to Galaxy 23) with most channels having a signal of 75% to 80% and enjoyed watching the programming on these satellites once again. However, the signals on Galaxy 18 and AMC21 were weak around 65% with breakups.
Now the story gets better. Not wanting to miss the British comedies last night yesterday afternoon while the dish was aimed at AMC21 I went out to the dish with a wrench and loosened the bolts to adjust the declination once again. As I was adjusting it back to 20 degrees the wrench slipped and blood began to pour out of my finger. I tightened the bolts and came in for first aid. To my surprise the signal on Montana PBS was at 87%. I told my wife I was not going to move the dish until after the shows were over last night, because the signal was the best it had ever been. I was also sure that I had lost all the other satellites. When I went back out to the dish to clean up the blood and to bring in the step stool I noticed that the declination was still at 22 degrees. This I found odd, because something must of moved in order to get such a fantastic signal.
Now the best part of the story. After Red Green last night I scanned through all the available satellites from AMC21 to Amazonas 2 and the signals are the BEST they have been in years with most channels having signal strengths between 85% and 90%.
I feel like welding all adjustments (elevation, declination, etc) in place, so that this lasts forever.
