I have a Birdog Perfect Vision with DDSI from around 2009 and was wondering if that type is still being used by installers these days?

I believe many use a sat buddy or supper sat buddy now a days, but the birdog is still a good meter, even though the one you have is a little dated.

These meters still work just fine, however don't expect to power the newer lnbs with them.

If receivers are in place & install is basically done other than tuning the dish. You can use an unused port on lnb for tuning, with the receiver powering the lnb there is no instant power drain on the bd.
With directv a jumper to an unused port on the swm switch will do the same thing, just make sure you have that file on the meter.

You can tune a dish with a bd as good as with any other meter. Just have to know the "ins" & "outs".
