I have a dish 1000.2 and here in southern Illinois we have had a lot of ice the past few weeks. What is the best way to keep ice from forming on the dish. I hope it does not hurt by spray Deicer like you would use on car windows. To thin out the ice on the dish. is there anything i can do or buy that will prevent ice from building up so much.??????

I would spray it with non-stick cooking spray, or coat it with vegetable oil if its building up.
With the sun shining on it, it really shouldn't build up that much though.

There are dish heaters you know, I don't have any experience with them, No need here in Phoenix. But we get a lot of snow birds here and they bring the heaters with them. I have seen them so I know they are out there.
Don't do this it makes a huge mess on the dish. It works great for keeping snow and ice off, but every thing else will stick to the dish.

I have heard the non-stick spray is usefull in the winter, but messy in other situations(wait until the bugs come in the Spring/Summer, EEWWW!!!).
The supersoaker with the de-icer attached sounds like a good idea if the dish is up and out of the way..
my dish is mounted on my garage and I have a 300 watt bulb behind it. when it gets icy I just turn it on for a 1/2 hour or so and no more ice!

Someone up the road from me has a DSCover on their dish, I considered getting them for my two dishes but I might just get the automatic heater instead.
It hasn't really been a problem, maybe once a season I have to clean the snow off due to the wind spraying snow at them just right. However, when they go up higher than they are now, I won't really want to have to climb up there to clean them off..
