I am looking for the best portable setup. I have a round (18) i need to know what box will be the best for that dish. Or a new set up dish and box. This will be in our race trailer so it doesnt need to be anything fancy or best picture quality. I guess im looking for a basic setup easy to operate.

SD receiver plus 18in round dish on a tripod. Easiest setup, but not HD.

Yup,
+ Learn to read a compass.............keep a few tools aboard including a 7/16" & 1/2" wrench. With the tripod carry enough cable and barrel connectors to move the tripod / dish a little distance from your RV. Carry weights or stakes to hold down the tripod in wind.............Check your RV for splitters in the setup. You cannot split the line from the dish to the receiver. From the receiver you can split the output to several TVs using coax / antenna lines....(which may well be already in your RV) so think about a separate line from the dish to the receiver...then connect to your RV coax system to the output of the receiver....the splitters will be ok there.

Happy camping!

For holding the dish down we use stakes as well as a bungee cord and a gallon of water.

Jimbo,
Saw one in Annapolis at the Army / Navy Game. The RV owner had a round dish mast bolted to each corner of his RV. He said he could usually get at least one corner pointing to the 101..........he put flags in the other masts!...............also seen extra masts used to hold fishing poles when not holding the round dish.

As i am a race car driver i found it fitting to bolt mine to an old rim. It worked great in our ice shack. However i am in need of a box to run with this dish.

Solidsignal and a bunch of other retailers sell tripods made for doing just this. Make sure to follow the advice of others, you will need 1 solid line of rg6 from the dish to the sat input on the receiver, this dish is pretty much designed only for a d10,d11 or d12 receiver, anything older will also work but has
extremely dated software. R15,r16 will also work as dvrs.

At some point you will have to open a Directv account,
They will install a dish on your home. Tip the installer to run the cable to your RV. He can show you how to peak the dish. The car wheel thing sound good if you have room for it. The receiver they install on your house can be moved to the RV. Try to use 110v existing power if possible. Generators can cause problems unless they are set up for RV use.

I have directv already. I can run the wire. The mount i have works very good. We used it ice fishing all the time. Since then i have recieved newer boxes and i am currently looking for another box that will work with my dish. Or a box and dish combo i should look for. Like i said it will be in my race trailer nothing fancy is needed. If someone could tell me the right box best or easiest box to get i would. If i need an older biox i sure i can get an ebay box. Or do i have to go through directv for anew box?

Adding a box to your account will start a new 2 year contract & of course the out of pocket fee for the box itself which will be leased.

Imo your best box to get is an h24. You can at least change the setup within the box to accommodate an 18" dish for 101 as long as hd or locals are not needed. The other advantage especially if your house already has the slimeline dish you can easily add it to your existing setup when not on the road.

I can take the box out of the spare room. I believe its a 24. However i couldnt get thisdish/box setup to work this winter while ice fishing. I may have to try it again.

Be sure it's a h24. Some boxes like the h25 are swm only. If it's a h24 & using 18" dish. Go to menu, setup, satellite & repeat setup. From that screen you will be able to select your dish setup. The same would have to be done again at the house if setups are different.

Ya i tried every set up one day. Ill hook it up again tomorrow and try again. If i remembered right i hooked dish directly to box, tried with swm on and off. Selected round 18 but could never get any signal.
