Have had Dish with HDTV package and HD offair for 3 years but want NFL package and want to switch. Have 4 receivers plus HD on one (Dish 811). I have antenna/amp/rotor and get numerous OTA channels with Dish 811. Want the best combo D box (no TIVO needed) with strongest OTA HD channel locking and multipath handling. Please suggest what I should be looking for with model numbers please.

The Hughes HTL-HD is your best option. There are an Sony and LG model that are the same, but this is the most cost effective.

I would highly recommend a Tivo unit as well but not the HD Tivo ... it seem to have a high failure rate (5%) this early on. Maybe wait for the next rev, but Tivo is 100 time better than a Dish PVR.

Good luck getting a deal on an HD receiver from Directv. Don't get me wrong, D* is great but when it comes to deals on HD receivers expect your best bet to be $350.

you can purchase an HTL-HD, LG-LS3200A or HD-200 from any vendor for 250, they just had a price break. Or you can go to DirecTV and get a 3-room system for 299 installed professionally.

I'm very impressed with the Hughes HTL-HD I have two that I just bought lastt week for $285 ea including shipping & no sales tax.

Abt Electronics

I like how the HTL-HD receiver has inputs for cable & OTA HD Antenna

How would you rate the off air capabilities of the HTL-HD? Most of my HD content comes via my antenna and I am 65 miles away from most stations so this reception is critical. Thanks :D

I'll have to get back to you on that since my Winegard SS-2000 is currently in transit.

I disagree entirely with slacker abdout the Hd TiVo.
The HD TiVo is among the best pieces of equipment I have ever bought.
And it picks up OTA signals far better than any of the several HD receivers (RCA, Sony, Toshiba) we have had.
Even if the failure rate were truly one in 20, replacements are usually made (these days at least) quickly and without question from what I understand.
