hi i am a newbie,

can anyone tell me what is the best and simplest fta hd receiver that's up and running now please? I was last using a viewsat max hd with a weatherforecaster, but i didn't have anything since it went down.now i wanna get back to watching satellite, but i wanna know what's the best route to take.

thanks:confused:

At any given time, there are a few contenders.
Most have shortcomings (bugs) that people put up with, and defend (often due to their large investment).
You'd think last years models would be perfect by now.
Well, those bugs are a moving target. ;)

If I were buying tomorrow, it would have to be the microHD from SatelliteAV.
The company has a very good reputation on previous products.
And coincidentally, I believe it is the least expensive in its class.

The "weatherforcaster" is only used for getting Dish Network illegally, so is not FTA! (Free To Air).

If you want a receiver that can get Dish and is "UP NOW" may I suggest you call Dish Network, and subscribe to one of their channel packages? They'd be most happy to install everything you need, including the BEST HD receiver!

It depends what your looking for in a FTA receiver.

If your looking for a basic FTA receiver, then hands down the best now is the MicroHD. Its a receiver that just keeps getting better! After that I would say the Manhattan RS-1922. I do feel that the tuner in the MicroHD is more sensitive then the Manhattan which is why I like it better.

But if your looking for something that does more, such as internet streaming, play back of youtube videos, playback of media files on your network so far the best unit I have seen (but not used) is the Anaconda. From the reports I have seen it seems to do everything well and is a swiss army knife of satellite receivers.

Tonyo, I realized I maybe came off a little hard up above on my first response. If you are really looking for a real FTA receiver, for real FTA channels, then the MicroHD receiver is perhaps the best choice now on the market, at the lowest price.

However, also realize that you will have to install at least a 30" size dish (39" is better, and really the smallest I'd recommend), with a real linear lnb. If you want this to point at anything more then a single satellite, you will also need a diseqc motor (~$50), or will have to adjust your dish manually each time you want a different sat. Or, you can also use a diseqc switch, and install multiple dishes pointed at different sats (instead of the motor). The motor route is probably cheaper.

There's 400+ KU channels up there in the clear fairly easy to get, and plenty to watch.

dish

 I just ordered a microhd receiver, but i need to know if it can work with either one of the dishes i have? i have a dp500 and a dp1000.3.

thanks in advance.

no. You need at least a 36" dish and a KU Band LNB

Those are only designed to pick up Dish Network which you would need to subscribe to them

I agree with Phlatwound, above.
That dish and LNB have a good reputation here on the forum.
Should make a killer system for beginner or old timer alike. - ;)
