Will a "Belle Vue" DVR work with Dish Network Satellite
signals received in the US, or will it only work if the

While Dish manufactors all the Bell Expressvue hardware, the Receiver Id numbers of all Echostar manufactored units are designated EITHER OR for US or Canada. So units manufactored for Canada will only be activated under Bell Expressvu and units manufactored for the US will only be activated under Dish Network.
Yes they will, a major software change needs to occur. We change it here because it is hard to purchase a bell unit so we change over 301's. You can also change a 301 to work with a 3100.
Can an Express Vu 721 take a software download such that
it will work on DishNetwork in the US? Would you have to
take it into a shop, or can the Software just download from
the Satellite on initial set up?
Folks a ExpressVu receiver is for ExpressVu, a Dish Network Receiver is for Dish Network.
Dish Network will not authorize a Express VU Receiver and ExpressVU will not authorize a Dish Network receiver.
If your trying to use an ExpressVu receiver for Dish Network or a Dish Network receiver for ExpressVU then you are going to try to hack it, and we all know SatelliteGuys is not the place to discuss hacking.
So please if that is your intention, take it somewhere else.
