I am in Canada and have a legal ExpressVu service on my model 4500. I would like to purchase, here, or on E-bay, a Dish 4700. does anyone know if the box will be supported in Canada with the card that i have. i am sure that if i call Bell, they will tell me that i have to purchase the box in Canada; why wouldn't they, it's revenue. Any thoughts? anyone done this before? thanks,all.

Dish & Bell use separate software in the boxes. They aren't compatible. The R# is registered to either Bell or Dish.

I tried to activate a Dish 301 as an Expressvu 3100 (dsame receiver...different software) but they wouldnt activate it because "the R# is registered to Dish Network"

sorry....

just switchd my dish receiver over to bell, but do not get the entire guide ie. missing vu stations. other channels working. is there a trick to getting the whole guide to download

well since they are not compatible, how did you do that?

The only way to do it is to accidentally download the wrong software from the get-go...unless you are trying to do something that is not condoned here...and that is steal the signal

The reason why the receivers appear to be incompatible is that each company has its own software. If you have a Dish Network receiver with factory software, meaning it has never been in the signal stream , it will download Expressvu's software. I bought a receiver from a guy on Ebay who was buying Dish 501s, putting an EV card in them, downloading EV software and selling them. He said that EV would authorize it as long as the card was a virgin EVcard. The cards have different numbers on them; Dish starts with S00 and EV with S04. He was right. I had it added to my account.

Derwin0,
Just for your info, yes expressvu does have their own version of the 501.

dish = evu
301 = 3100
501 = 5100
508 = 5800
510 = 5900
522 = 5200
811 = 6100

i stand corrected, thanks :bow

too bad they don't have one for the 721. I'd love to get that to work with BEV

also, 322 = 3200

You could get a 5200. It's almost the same. I am not sure, but you might be able to put an EV card in a 522 with factory software and make a 5200. There is no Dish card in a 522, but, if you put a card in it, it will accept the card. If the chips ever go bad in the "cardless" receivers, Dish fixed it so that they could just send out a new card. Now that the new Nagra 2 cards are out, people who pay for services can get a break on prices becuase the hackers won't be buying up all of the equipment on Ebay. You could get a 522 for $200 and an EV virgin Rom 102 card for $30. If anyone knows if this is possible, please tell me!!!

Simple answer is no it is not possible. Long answer is that it is not possible because neither ExpressVu nor Dishnetwork will activate either providers receivers. This is verified by the R00# on the receivers they differ from ExpressVu and Dish.

If the ROO numbers mattered, it does not seem to me that I would have been able to add that Dish 501 with the EV card .

The simple answer is that the receivers with the built in card will NOT work if you stick a card in the slot. So don't even try.

Really? have you ever tried? I know the built in chip will not work with EV, but the chip on the card will take over. For example, I was at my local Sears,this was back in July, the salesman didn't know how to work an 811, the 811 had a card inside it. There it was with programming on the 811. Another guy came over and I asked him why there was a card in the 811 and he told me that Dish only allowed him to have a certain number of active cards. When he would set up a receiver, he would have to get a card from another receiver. He had pulled the card out of the 6000 and put it into the 811 and called, Dish, I suppose, to change it. It shows that a card can be put into a cardless receiver and the card will overide the internal chip.

This is getting to borderline "we don't allow this crap here"

miguelaqui...please watch what your saying...if you know how to do this, please keep it to yourself. When I read the above, I can take it as hack talk, and we don't allow that here.

Sorry. I was not interested in hacking, but just saving money for those who sub. to expressvu. A person could buy a Dish receiver and a EV card.
What did you take as "hack talk" ? Do you still think it's boderline?

understandable.....its just that someone could take that as hacking and as staff I have to watch to make sure stuff like that doesnt show up :)

I changed it a little.

Actually, Yes I have. It didn't work.
Its not supposed to work unless they upgade the software to allow it.
Thanks, I was just trying to figure out a way to save money.
I'm just going to give up and get a Star Choice DVR when, if, it comes out.

How's it work: satellite,transponder,switch ?!?
