bein Sport HD channel request

The same argument can be made for Al Jazeera English. Yet, how many carriers are carrying that one?

You seem to think I'm somehow against them succeeding. I'm not. If they do succeed, great.

I'm just pointing out some facts and historical evidence that suggests things don't look that great, right now.

I couldn't give a crap about soccer. But, I understand that a lot of people love it for some reason. So, there is certainly a market. But, perhaps it would have been better for fans residing in the US, if FSC or Gol TV would have picked up the US broadcast rights, as they already have some carriage here.
You're missing my point. These soccer games are already popular here. The same leagues, same teams etc. are (were) being broadcast and are growing. All beIN is essentially doing is moving them to a different network. Thus it's not equivalent, because Al-Jazeera English isn't being shown on other stations like euro football is. It's just like if they won the NFL broadcast rights and then tried to show them on beIN. The fan base is there and will find the games. (I understand NFL is exponentially more popular than soccer in the US, its just and example.)

Well, my lack of grasping that would be caused my lack of boardroom knowledge about who they do or don't have carriage agreements with. A source months ago already noted that they had two carriers, though that could have been rumor, most else turned out to be true. So really there is no basis for saying they do or don't have carriage with anyone right now... unless you are hooked into sources that would know such a thing.

It means that this is already a professional broadcasting company, this isn't some fly by the pants operation like the WWE Network.

According to the forums over at Big Soccer they have no carriage agreements yet, and never have, Not sure where you got your rumors from......

I would like to see Dish Network carry beIN Sports 1 and 2.

If they do, and they probably will, I wouldn't be surprised to see them available, not in the Multisports pack, but only in the International Sports pack... which means at least one another package to subscribe to if you want your soccer (more if you don't already have international channels)... :(

There's an "International Sports pack"? I've never seen anything about that package.

That will make no sense. Probably they will add it to AT250 pack (will like it at AT200 though)....or might have it as la-carte. But lets see if Dish gets those channel first.

I get your point. But, you are missing mine. Al Jazeera is popular here. There is a clear market for International News. Yet, they can't get AJE carried. It speaks to their ability to strike deals with carriers.

What counts is Al Jazeera's ability to strike carriage deals for BeIn. It has almost nothing to do with the content. It has do do with their business acumen. And, the fact that they do not yet have carriage agreements for this relatively popular programming so close to the event horizon demonstrates their lack thereof.

I am not disputing that there is US market for European soccer. Of course there is. I am pointing out a very real possibility that, due to business reasons, that market may not get to see it. AJ might be better served to re-sell those US rights to those that do have carriage, so that fans like you can enjoy these games without requiring a bunch of additional FTA HW. Maybe they assume soccer fans will go to the trouble, or find some way to watch the FTA feed.

I agree, it wouldn't make much sense for a new channel, except for the fact that it's European soccer and sponsored by a network whose news channel we can't even get on Dish. Would it make sense to put it in a regular package? I can see a la carte, maybe $10/month for both channels. How Dish gets away with $15/month for FSS+, in SD no less, is beyond me...

I presume it is commercial free like Setanta was. So that means they are showing soccer/rugby 24/7, unlike FSC which shows soccer about 10 hours a day. It also gives you access to most EPL games, though some are tape delay. $15 a month isn't a bad deal, and typically, it costs that much regardless where you are. I think a couple providers in some areas provide it for $5 or $6, or maybe even part of a sports package, but I think the majority have FS+ at around $15 a month.

If they can't get a carriage deal going, they should look into a subscription streaming solution in the mean time. That would allow viewage, at least. And, if they create a Roku channel, that would add viewing on TV's, so people aren't confined to PC's.

WOW! No idea FSC+ was only in SD for $15 a month!! What a rip off.

TWC has it here included in the sports package ($7ish) with GolTV both in HD. Which is still not enough to make me switch back to TWC :)

Dish please sign a contract with BeIn. I tolerated you dropping GolTV but if I lose Serie A I will be extremely upset.

Interesting stuff. From an interview, sounded like streaming was ready yet, though perhaps paid VOD streaming is ready yet. I'll always take free futbol!

According to Mushnik at the NY Post, BeIn is willing to pay for carriage:

In order to enter the U.S. market, Al Jazeera, an international rights specialist this week told us, is willing to pay cable operators to clear beIN. In other words, Al Jazeera doesn’t want to be paid by operators, to make room for its sports goods it’ll pay them!

Dish plus pay-for-airtime = made for each other, no?
