Backup / convert my Favorite DVD movies ?

I'd like to copy movies like True Grit, Harry Potter, etc. Has anybody done this before?
I've heard that we need to use the help of DVD backup/conversion software, such as Any DVD Converter ProBut it costs, and I want a freeware.
has anybody used it, or used any other programs?
Any suggestions would be immensely appreciated?

Without getting too specific, do some googling and you will find a more than sufficient solution. The best ones you need to pay for, but they are worth it.
