AZBox vs Openbox

AZBox Ultra is the cheapest BLIND SCAN model they have now and like I said before, there's a guy on Ebay that is located in Miami, Fl that has had them for $219 in the past month. In fact, I just looked there and found his link.

AZBOX HD ULTRA SATELLITE RECEIVER AZ BOX FTA GRATIS TV - eBay (item 250786235451 end time Apr-08-11 20:23:57 PDT)

thanks for the info....so i dont need to buy any additional add on modules? the ultra does the dvb-s2 and 422 right out of the box? what is the panel on the top of the receiver for that looks like you can remove it? i need blind scan and would never buy a receiver without it

the unit does all 4:2:0 & 4:2:2 versions as it...no extra equipment..that means
4:2:0 SD
4:2:0 HD
4:2:2 SD
4:2:2 HD
4:2:0 DVB-S2
4:2:2 DVB-S2
DVB-S2 8PSK
DVB-S2 QPSK

the only thing it wont do is Turbo 8PSK that Dish uses

But the blindscan is faster with Openbox. But with Openbox there is no 4:2:2 so some percentage of sportsfeeds can't be received.

The OpenBox can only handle external Hard drives if they are powered. Just something to keep in mind.

Not true, my OpenBox has had no trouble whatsoever powering USB hard disk drives, i've used it with 5 different "Seagate FreeAgent Go" Hard Disk Drives (a couple of them being 320 GB, two more 500 GB and one being a Terabyte), plus 2 Hitachi (320 GB and 500 GB), I like to record all the baseball i can get to watch it later so i need various hard drives at hand for different purposes.

PS
Lookout for the AzBox clones out there on ebay and with non-authorized dealers, since i don't condone pirates i try to always buy from authorized dealer and distributors (i think there's one or two in the US, and have read that a guy in EBay, from Florida, was stripped of its dealer status by AzBox/Opensat because he was selling clones).

Had my SSO (Openbox,Sathawk,Solomend) for over a year now and I like it. HD thru the Hdmi looks real good. I'm not into sports that much so I don't miss 4:2:2.....Blind

Funny, I hadn't heard that until this post? Where or from whom did you get that information?

What I heard was that his tech support was left wanting is the reason he's not "authorized". The only thing I've seen happen since he lost his "authorization" status is that his price has come down about $50 per unit and he's obviously making money on them or else he wouldn't still be selling them. As I said up the page, I've got two AZs that came from him and NEITHER are clones. The "Bravoo" AZ he sells "might" be but since Opensat doesn't sell an AZBox Bravoo model then one might not consider that a clone either.

The bottom line is that the now "authorized" distributor here in the USA has done more to kill this hobby in the past few years than NPS did to kill Cband! For that reason I wouldn't buy from him if he were the last dealer on the planet. If you don't want to buy from the Ebay guy in Miami, Fl, then might I suggest that you look to a couple of AZBox resellers that are members here that are located in Canada for your AZBox needs.

PS, that USA distributors name is banned on this board because of his actions, that are considered detrimental to the hobby!

Since I am unaware of this information and would take guidance from members here, would this guy's name starts with R and like motorsports or I am going fast in the wrong satellite dealer direction?

For an external Hard disk the azbox can power the device (nice if you have a few seagate 'go' drives like I do)
The OpenBox can only handle external Hard drives if they are powered. Just something to keep in mind.

That's not the case.:)

I use a smartdisk 40gig formatted at FAT32 USB powered.
And a Seagate 500 gig formatted at NTSC USB powered.

Both work just fine on the OpenBox.

I certainly enjoy my Openbox S9 receiver. In fact, I'm buying another soon for the bedroom.

You might want to take a look at the RS1933 Manhattan to be released at the end of March according to this news announcement.
Has nearly the same specs as the OpenBox. It too lacks 4:2:2. I don't know if it is any better than the OpenBox, but the developer is in Wisconsin suggesting a U.S. orientation to it.

The release date has been moved a few times now. I would live to see it out though. Too bad it does not do 4:2:2.

Sent from my EVO using the SatelliteGuys App

I read somewhere about the Humax Icord HD, and it supposedly would do 4:2:2 as well as HD. Is that confirmed? Where can it be purchased?

Testing a Manhattan beta box and it blindscans just as fast as the openbox. They are working hard on the software, and the support will be better as support is in the USA.

Woofy,

Do I have this right. You are in possession of a Manhattan box for beta testing! Huh, who, wow! How did you do that? Do you have a gag order, can you tell us more?
