Attention Tivo Users,

I just got word that over the next few weeks Tivo units for DirecTV will begin seeing expiration times for PPV Movies just like the rest of DirecTV receivers currently have.

This means when you purchase a PPV you have 24 hours from the time of purchase to watch your event.

As a reminder, the general rule of thumb is that the 24-hour period begins at the time of confirming the purchase. (Whether its online, through the phone or by remote control)

A difference to watch out for -- Tivos do not have the "record/buy later feature" option that our DIRECTV DVR and HD DVRs have -- so once the movie is purchased for a Tivo, the 24-hour clock starts ticking.

Therefore, please recommend that people make their purchases carefully and plan viewing accordingly as a PPV movie can expire from my Playlist before they get around to watching it -- or -- may stop playing in the middle of viewing if it's been 24 hours since it was purchased.

And there you have it, thanks for being SatelliteGuys!

I haven't purchased a single PPV since the 24 hour limit was imposed. Doubt that I ever will.

Before then I would program my DVR to record a PPV, typically watch the movie about 2-4 weeks later, then watch it again after 6 months, and if I liked it, watch it again after 1 year.

If I can't watch it twice, with at least a break of a month in between, then I have no interest in it.

PPV's were nice "gifts" offered through retention for long-term customers. I took advantage of those.. Things are definitely nicer if they're free..
