I just saw a pop-up on Fox Charlotte's WCCB channel 18 that their contract with Dish expires at midnight, May 31, and Dish has rejected the new terms, meaning that we may lose that channel Monday night.

This is my most watched HD network, and rather peeved at WCCB's demand for more money. I can only hope that Dish will be able to import a neighboring DMA's Fox, because of the new law.

legally they can't

I went through this years ago when Dish pulled the Viacom stations and my local (WCCO) CBS which is Owned and operated by CBS/Viacom was pulled too. You get a $1 discount but they cannot legally import a neighboring Fox station

They can only do it if there is NO network in the market. If there is a affiliate in the market they cannot import a different one

Well, that blows. If wccb goes away, AAD may be in my future, that is, if I can get a Fox station without needing a waiver.

You could "move" to the Tri Cites dma and watch Johnny Wood in the mornings. I remember from previous posts that your much closer to Tri Cities than to Charlotte, Avery county, right? You could easily put up a wing for 129 & you'd be good to go. :D

you might need a waiver...usually these disputes last days...a week tops in most cases. Of course there are some exceptions

Sheesh, Johnny Wood is what, 120 years old? ;) He was doing the weather when I was a kid, and I'm 50 now. :)
Tri cities towers are roughly 20 miles away, and OTA is impossible. Can't get 129 either. Watauga county, BTW.

Mitchell county is EA and is in the Greenville/Spartanburg dma. That would be possible. :)

and I hope Dish stands up to every one of them. It would be nice if Direct, Comcrap, and the rest would do the same thing to these stations and not just pay them anything they ask for...

I just saw on the Fox Charlotte Facebook page that they came to agreement with Dish Network. At least we won't miss a race and hopeful it won't cost us more.

And if these companies see that Dish is not willing to pay as much for the stations as the other providers do over time then they may not cave in anymore, particularly those that own several stations. If Dish is paying less than the other companies will want to pay less as well if it is public record what has been paid.

These greedy dispute things need to stop...

Whenever some one tells me to stop arguing a certain point, I think to myself, "agree with me and the argument ends".

That local channels can charge even a penny for their feed to be provided to the area they are charged to serve is insane! That program providers can charge anything beyond a nominal fee to cover the cost of distribution for local channels is even more insane.

The cause of these idiotic disputes is the absolutely crazy regulations that allow for a local station to charge their viewers (indirectly) to get the signal.

See ya

The ONLY sure way to get the program providers (TNT, TBS, USA, CMT, etc) and local stations to not be so greedy with their retransmission agreements is for ALL of us to drop pay-tv. All the complaining, making phone calls, sending emails, and even government involvement will not bring down cable and DBS prices. If everyone would cancel their pay tv subscription for ONE month, that would surely send a message to all parties involved. But, it won't happen. People love their TV too much to simply settle for TV via their rooftop or indoor antenna.
