I don't think they really worried about the money, thier whole play was to gain more Subs for negotiating benefits .
They really ran the Sat service in the ground quickly.
Not so sure thier Large number of Subs actually paid off for them in the long run.
So when is the timeline to shut down DTV Sat service? And if people are complaining about losing Sunday Ticket to streaming how will they handle losing their TV service to streaming.

Its been talked about previously here and come to the conclusion that D* has Sats up there now that can go as long as 2030 ... (maybe longer).
Would the service be viable that long out though? Cable can provide broadband down the line. Will Satellite service be it Dish or DTV have another use for its infrastructure. It's obvious what ATT's end game is, streaming.
They have everything they need in place, they just need someone dedicated to keep it running.
It's still making plenty of money.
When it ends is going to come down to who owns it and what they want to put into it.
Can you name any dbs satellite that lasted more than 15 years? Dtv satellie not going away anytime soon..but dont be surprised when they reallocate the frequencies like they are doing with c band...its just technology marching on

I hadn't noticed it ... it DID still go to an ADD the other day ... however it didn't this morning, good catch.

Nope, last one went up in 2019 ( ordered before AT&T bought them), but DirecTV is in better shape then Dish, their last Satellite went up 11 years ago and nothing planned or ordered.
DirecTV other big problem is their boxes for the Sat. Service are getting a little old, how long can they last, dated technology is never a good look.
The other issue is how many customers they can lose and still be profitable, losses this year are, reported, first and second quarter roughly -1,000,000 and estimated another -400,000.

D4, launched in 2002 with a 10 year expected life, retired about a year ago. D8, launched in 2005 with a 12 year expected life is now going strong at 119W and Directv expects its fuel to last until 2034.
