Hi Folks
anybody noticed any problems with Astra 1L at19.2 east Vert K band downlink, seen what looks like downlinks
coming and going very fast, within seconds of being up and gone, and back again, it's seems to be on the Ka 10 transponder, 18.500 to 18.550 Ghz. It is a A2100 Lockheed Martin payload, but she was put in orbit in 2007, just wondered if it was any connection with the Solar Panels.

Hi
Not sure but Lockheed Martin did a digital channeliser, which payload they put them is a unknown to me.
It was an modification to the bent pipe, was said to be much more tolerant to radiation in orbit, could be updated with software easy, anybody know any more on this subject, as this could be a other possible cause.

Since Astra 1L is at 19.2 degrees east, it is not visible in North America. I am betting that maybe you are in Great Britain or Ireland? Since most of us that frequent this forum are in the USA or Canada, we can't see that particular satellite to see if we are having the same problem.

Hi
No very little, it's mostly all IP connections, All Ku for Europe, 10.7 Ghz to 12.75Ghz

ive not seen anything fta on ka over here
sorry to go off topic, btw

maybe there testing a setup that sends bursts of info then shuts down the transponder then fires it back up to send more when needed and uses a particular receiver capable of storing info to save power on the satellite.
like say that it is capable of sending enough info for 30 seconds of video in 5 seconds so it just needs to be powered up for 5 seconds every 30 seconds
purely a random out there guess, but maybe possible

Hi
Yes very interesting, like the folks who bounce radio signals off comet tails, they
receive a second or so of signal and store this, untill the next time they bounce a signal
off another comet tail, then store this and so on, it takes a long time to make a message this
way but thats the fun of it.
