Are we ever going to get more than 100 record timers?

How does anyone have time to watch 50 shows, let alone 100!?!?! How do you fit it on the DVR? External? I thought my 41 timers was a lot, and about 15 of them are still there for shows that are no longer even on due to cancellation/series being over, etc...

This is supposed to be a whole home DVR. We have 4 people in the house that each watch different shows, not hard to get to 100. I'm constantly near the limit. I couldn't believe there is a limit when I hit it.

You have 4 adults living in the house ?
Kids don't count .... if your kids run the show then there other issues .... not saying don't record for kids but your priorities need work.

Really, that's your response. Priorities are just fine, they are straight A students, no reason that can't watch/record show just like adults. So yes, in my house they do count. Why do people continue to defend this limit? I've never had any other DVR with a limit like this.

Overall, the limit exists; there's likely nothing that is going to be done about it. If you want to record more shows, then getting another HDDVR would be sufficient in allowing you to do so. Otherwise, the limits that you have right now are the limits that you are stuck with.

We have 50 right now setup and we routinely only have little to watch. Many shows go in and out of seasons, sometimes you just want to have some old shows you really like on record for reruns and every quarter it seems there are new shows coming out that you check out an episode or two to see if they suck or not. I probably have 10 or so shows still on there that aren't going to produce new episodes but I don't know that yet. That is just for the three of us and we don't watch a ton of tv.

Anyway, 1 hour of TV a night. Many shows are one episode a week. Doesn't take much to get over 50 shows considering they are in and out of season.

Wheres a good limit ?
50 wasn't enough, 100 isn't enough ... 250, 500 ?

IF they did this you would find the processor eventually lacking as well as response due to the large number of shows tied up in the HD also while complaining if the HD died, that you lost 7,000 shows.

No one ever thinks about the necessary hardware requirements when complaining about minute details.

I find it really hard to believe that Dtv has never lifted the 100 timer limit on the hr34-44. What good does recording 5 channels at once and only 100 timers. I have 4 tvs and that breaks down to 25 timers per tv. I have lived with this problem for 3 years. My directivo 10 years ago could set as many timers as I wished even Dish hopper has no limited from what I have been told. Its just a pain when a show is off season I have to delete the timer and try to remember when it comes back on. Sorry for the rant but its 2015 if I didn't despise Dish so much I would be switching to a Hopper just because of this.
I'm pretty a full list slow down a HR34. Especially if you have Boolean ones.

What makes you think I have 7,000 shows? Just because I am near the 100 limit doesn't mean the shows sit on there forever. Shows come and go a different times of the year, not all are running at the same time. I shouldn't have to delete the Series Recording just because it is not currently on the air, it will be back and I'll probably forget to re-setup the recording.

There shouldn't be a limit. The oldest DirecTivo's didn't have a limit and I'm sure that was very old hardware.

Kind of a moot point anyway, only DirecTV can change it so it's a worthless argument to keep having. Just because 50 or 100 is enough for you doesn't mean it's enough for everyone period.

You Are aware that you don't have to keep that timer all year, correct ?
As long as you do not remove it from your To Do list where you choose the priority, your good.

That doesn't make any sense to me. You have to have the timer for anything to be in the To Do List, don't you? It is managing the Series were you set the priorities.

I currently have 19 different shows in my Series Manager, some of them show recordings coming up, most don't as they are Fall shows.
There are some in there that are no longer on .... some have been cancelled ... are they ALL taking up timer slots even if they are not current ?
I don't know for sure.

What I do know is that I have one spot in my Series Manager is for NCIS (as an example) and as long as I leave that in there, it will pick it up and Record whenever the New Season starts .... I have to do Nothing for it to happen.

I was thinking the same thing ...

Also, these are the same people that complain when a hard drive goes bad and they lose thier recorded shows .... for some reason, some people think that hard drives last forever.
No, the real problem is that folks believe that DVRs are for archiving content, when reality is DVRs are made just for time shifting. The way is supposed to work is if you like a show, buy the DVD. If you must have part of a news broadcast, contact the outlet for a copy, after they hold the copyright.

Like I said "directivo" they were before dtv had their own DVR 10+ years ago probably more like 15years. Genies have only be around for about 3.5 years I got a hr34 the first day you could order then got hr44 as soon as my 2years were up it was as slow as a hr24.
But it got better with the Genie, correct. So to say "this has been an issue for 10+ years with dtv drv's ever since they dropped directivos" is not quite correct.

Yes, sure, there's the limit. Yes, the old TiVos didn't have it. However, there is a huge difference between then and now. The hard drive capacity was a lot smaller, a lot fewer channels were around, as well as a lot fewer shows that people recorded on a regular basis. With more than 250 channels to record from now, there's a lot more demand for recording, sure, however that also means that the hardware has to be able to complement the software. It was mentioned before; if there wasn't a limit, and you held 500 timers at once, the receiver wouldn't be able to process anything. Think an HR21 or HR22 with system slowness, magnified by 100. It would be terrible. Just because you're an outlier and need more than 100 timers doesn't mean everyone does.

Simple way around it: Get another HDDVR and connect it to the same TV if need be and pay the extra $6.50/mo. You gain additional timers, HDD space, as well as tuners, all while sharing via MRV.

Win-Win. Stop complaining.

Hold all calls, we have a winner!

Forty one is nothing. All of the shows that both my wife and I watch are recorded on the HR34 (and Arris 3600), the shows that only my wife watches are recorded on the HR24 (and the Cisco 8742). There are 70 shows that I or we both watch, with two more coming up, and about 20 in the past year that are either no longer on the air, or I stopped watching. I'm not sure what my wife records, but last time I checked there are about 40 shows in the Series Manager. So that 110 total. I used to keep a spreadsheet of what I record, a few weeks ago I updated it.

All shows are typically watched within 24 hours after the originally air. As it stands right now, between the 4 DVRs in the house, that have a combined 2 TB recording capacity, there is only one hour of TV sitting on them. I never used DVRs as a means to archive recordings.

Apparently you must be retired, and Never leave home.

Items that are no longer On TV you can delete the timers and then have more available to you.
