I've noticed since I've been on the eastern arc with dish I've been losing signal much easier than when I was on the western arc with DTV.

I just canceled my international sub so I no longer need the 118 slot. Would it be worth it to go western and have a wing dish for my locals in hd on 61.5 since I can get up to the 80-90s signal wise on western

Problem is , You would not get all the HD channels with 110,119,61.5

You would need either the 129 or 72

Unless you want to keep your WA, 110,119,129 and then add a wing for 61.5.

I wish I could do this, But I'm in Eastern Pa, and the 129 isn't very obtainable.
Because I agree Eastern arc is poor against rain fade not sure why considering they are KU satellites.

I was going to have 110, 119, 129, and 61.5 with a DPP44 switch. I have the Americas top 250, HBO, Max, Sho, Starz, and dish movie pack. Will I still get all these?

You would get everything just from having the 110,119,129.
The locals would be the only thing you would need the 61.5 for.

But I'm not sure how the receivers will default for HD.
Having that 61.5 may cause more issues then good.

Someone will chime in with the mixed arc answers.

I had a similar setup as you propose and the problem we had with split arc is that it confuses PTAT. Most of the time it would not record anything, the other time it would usually record the SD channel.
it was that way with both Hoppers. Mama was not happy, and you know what that means. Dish could not seem to make it work so they switched me to EA. I do notice a bit weaker signal but PTAT works great and that is more important for me.

Ive never used ptat and most likely never will
PTAT is a gimmick....Don't worry about the receivers not defaulting to the HD feed.
All of the HD receivers including the Hopper are designed to default to HD channels where applicable.
Split arcs is not a concern

PTAT is not a gimmick. They are putting 4 channels on one tuner, 24/7. It's a very positive thing, even for a negative thinker.... ;)
But, you can get the benefits of the Big 4 local channels on one tuner without using PTAT, and not only during PTAT hours. There's positive thinking. :)

It's too bad IMO 90%the content on Prime time is garbage.
Even my wife might have 4 shows a week, which is hardly worth the Using PTA feature.

I wish we could pick our own 4 Networks during primetime we want to record on tuner 3.
Now that would be awesome.

They'd have to come off the same transponder. That is how it works now, just grabs and records the transponder and filters it out in the PTAT folder. I look at it as reading comprehensive excel sheets, and using the wonderful filter button, or the organize option. All the data is still there, but doesnt mean it has to be showing. That is the comparison that makes sense in my head.

At one time there was talk about expanding PTAT to include different blocks of channels that many watched, but nothing ever came of it. The networks are the main channels with new content Mon - Friday and on Sundays too, during fall to spring of the year. We watch a lot of network shows each day and the PTAT feature has been a gift to me. WE can use it for my wife to watch her shows and I set timers on the shows that I like in my Folder so I can transfer them to my I-pad daily to watch at work. I work security at a chemical plant evenings and this works great to fill my 8 hours a day Mon -Fridays. This way we can share one hopper and we can still watch our shows without disputes. The only exceptions are CW shows that we have to make sure that we don't delete till all of us ,including my 15 year old son watches. We watch a lot of CW shows each day. Love the FLASH,Supernatural, Originals,IZombie and my wife and son love ARROW.

To save the hastle of flipping arc I've heard a dish 500 could be used for 61.5 and 72. How would a 105 superdish work since the reflector is bigger. I moved the 119 sidecar lnb all the way out to make it close as possible. Ill try a meter on it later today.
