TVs always display in their native resolution. Tune to a Fox channel, which is 1280 x 720 and your TV will still say 2160. Or, your Hopper has an output resolution setting. You probably have it set to 1080i/p. When you're watching something on the Hopper, your TV will still indicate 2160.

Regarding Netflix, I was going to ask if you subscribe to their plan that offers it. I didn't know it was an added cost...

i think it is a couple dollars to get ultra 4k content on your tv.

EVERY TV I've ever seen when you press the info button will show the resolution of the source not the display resolution.

I was viewing the 4K TV show and movie thru Cat5 to my TV. I wasn't watching thru the Hopper. The resolution was 2160. Yes, I joined the 4K Netflix.
My opinion is that TV shows and movies do not really look that much different but watch something that is a natural type scenery and you should notice that it seems much sharper.

I guess I was expecting the picture would really jump out at me like when I watched a Blue Ray on the kid's Play Station one time. Wonder why I had the top and bottom black bars when I watched the 4K movie from Netflix! Maybe it was that movie for some reason. I will try another movie out tomorrow.

That would be because the movie was being shown in the proper aspect ratio.

You also need the Internet speed to stream 2160p which is why I can only watch 2160p on my thumb drive on my Vizio 4K UHDTV,I can only watch Netflix in 1080i/720p on my Dish receiver, and 1080p on my TV,because AT&T Elite DSL is only 6Mbps.

It is possible to see the black borders on movies,it all depends on how the movie was filmed,but you can adjust the picture format settings on the Dish receiver and TV.

I was watching the 4K movie on the TV, not the DISH DVR. The speed test for this 4K Vizio is downloading at 10.75 Mb/s or around 86 Mbps. The TV screen format button will not let me adjust the screen.
 
I can't find a Netflix version of "Hitch". Do you mean the Will Smith movie from 10 years ago ? If so, that movie is 2.35:1 aspect ratio, so it will have bars at the top and bottom (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0386588/technical?ref_=tt_dt_spec).

Hitch video is still there in Netflix and I started it playing again. Info says 2160p 5.1 audio. I can bring it up too with the Hopper Netflix app and I can find it also in one of my Samsung 1080p TVs Netflix app. Try again Hall and do a search in the Netflix app and see what you get if you haven't tried that yet.
