Now heres a question, does it matter if we have a hacked iphone or a non hacked iphone? Im assuming they would want to know how it performs on both versions of the software as the only diffrence between the two versions (even though they are the same) is you can run more personalized software on the hacked version.

I can't answer if DirecTV will accept you or want you to test with a hacked version, but from a purely technical standpoint as long as you are still able to install and run software from the App Store, you should be able to install the beta app. Now, whether it works properly or not is a different story as jailbroken phones aren't exactly the same as non-jailbroken phones.

I was just looking for something exactly like this last week.. The current mobile website is nice.. but something iPhone specific would be a lot better

You mean jail broke, not hacked. The only difference in a jail broke iphone/ipod touch and one thats not is you are able to install apps on it not from the app store, you can allso install from "installer" or "cydia".

In the realm of iPhone, jailbroken and hacked are the same thing. Don't think hacked in the way that it is used in satellite TV. There's no way currently to steal phone service. Also, there is more to a jailbreak than simply being able to install non-app store apps. Additional UNIX libraries and utilities are installed and the operating system is modified in ways that aren't immediately clear. I'm sure DirecTV would probably rather that people not test with a jailbroken phone, or at the very least, not report problems if they got it.

The key to remember is that iPhone beta development has a hard limit of 100 devices, so only 100 users will get to test this before it's released to the app store, unless DirecTV buys more than one developer license or releases more than one 'build', which they could easily do..release several build numbers that are actually the same code.

Yeo that's why I asked, because if its necessary I will unjailbreak my iphone for this. I wasn't sure if it made a difference or not.

Im very intrigued about this one, I really hope I am selected. Ive been an apple iPhone User for sometime, and I am a web developer. Im am very grateful to hear that Directv will be intergrading an iPhone app with its service.

I would love to test this app!

I am also very grateful for this also. I wonder what you;ll be able to do with this app.

I hope I can use it as a:
1) Remote Control
2) Set Schedules/ To Do lists
3) Watch pre recorded shows on it like Sling
4) Check guide
5) And MORE!

When I signed up it stated you had to have a phone with version 2.2.1 and you have to agree to upgrade as new versions come out. You also have to connect to Itunes.

Oh great, I botched my submission! I put my Iphone serial number in instead of the identifier. When I tried to resubmit with the correct one it said I was already in the database. Should I assume that it did not update that field?

Thank You. Your information has been saved. You are in position number: 345

BTW, do you need a Jailbroken iPhone to do this? I won't Jailbreak mine..

No they would never do that, Apple and AT&T would not be very happy with directv if that was the case.

Ah ok!
Well I am looking forward to this.
It should be amazing.
DirecTV should create an option so you can watch TV from your iPhone for the channels you subbed to over the internet, I doubt that will ever happen.

You can do that now. Im running the latest software, (jail broken of chorse.) Usally when a new software update comes from apple, its jail broken within a few days. Connecting to itunes with a jail broken phone is not an issue either (as far as I know) I have been able to sync and do everything from itunes like a normal user can.

No, but we are discussing if directv would like us to test with jail broken phones or if they want non jail broken phones. Jail broken is not required, but those of us who do jail break our phones are wondering if we can run with that ball in testing or go back to factory non jail broken specs.

Either way its no big deal, I can run with both balls. Jail broken or not Jail Broken just let me know how you want em. Shaken or Stirred :D
