AppleTV

If this doesn't show up in the Play store, I am going to be really ticked. I already wonder if I shouldn't have gone with AppleTVs instead of Shields due to some odd behavior.
I gave my parents a Chromecast with Google TV as a Christmas gift. Yesterday, after seeing that the Apple TV app was available, I went to the Google Play store in a web browser logged into their Google account. When I searched for "Apple TV" in the app section, there it was. I clicked the install button and then selected their Chromecast as the target device. Said it would be installed soon.

Now, maybe the app doesn't show up in Google Play if you don't have any eligible devices linked to your account? I don't know how that works. Or maybe it shows up but it just won't let you install it.

I apparently don't have any eligible devices:

Did you see two different tiles for the Apple TV app in the search results? I did. Not sure what that was about. The first one allow installation on the CCwGTV while the other one showed the same thing as what you posted: no eligible devices. Weird.
Yeah, they both have the same message about "not available..."

Mine says “not compatible with this device.” I wonder if it detects my Rokus.

Just to be clear: Rokus are not Android TV devices. Rokus are their own platform. AppleTV+ has been on Roku and FireTV platforms since the service launched. However, Android TV support has only been recently added, and is apparently not on all devices yet.

Detecting other device types doesn’t seem unreasonable.
The Google Play app store only serves Android and Android TV devices. Apple devices -- iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs -- use the Apple App Store. Roku devices likewise have their own app store (or, as Roku calls it, "channel store"). And Amazon has their own app store for Fire tablets and Fire TVs.

None of those app stores detect or support "foreign" devices, just the devices they're intended to serve. (OK, I think Amazon does still operate an app store for Android phones and tablets but nobody uses it, they use the pre-installed Google Play app store on those devices.)

I find it ironic that the one thing that almost caused me not to graduate from High School, I am really looking forward to seeing. We had to read the "Foundation Trilogy" in SciFi Lit and I openly admitted that I didn't care for it. Come to find out, it was the teachers' favorite. So I failed SciFi Lit.

And I was the one to have a Spock haircut long before the series hit the air.

I've never read the books. Any thoughts here about reading before watching the show?

I did read The Expanse series before watching and enjoyed both.
