Apple IPAD Owner's Thread

I know you would like to believe this but in reality, it just doesn't work regardless of the policy of the billing. Consider a 5 spot device. It is capable of up to 5 ip addresses off one Verizon 3G modem.
It is capable of much more, if it is WiFi, like a phone modem. I have 5 devices in my router via LAN and 5 additional via WiFi.

BTW, AT&T and Apple is now going to open up the iPhone as a mobile hotspot with a Tethering account. That means that the phone will now serve as a single modem to connect multiple devices while paying for just one account (as it should be).

ETA: I see where the confusion is. You are taking the, "As many devices as you want" too literally. As many devices as you want was not meant to mean that I can connect 20 devices at one time. But I can connect a million devices, 5 at a time, when needed.

What is it that you find compelling to JB an ipad? With present iOS, the only thing I find is if I could watch Flash Video when it shows up. Is there something else I'm missing out on? I don't want to do something that becomes more trouble / maintenance than what it's worth.

New subject - remote control software.

I've been trying out a few different remote control software apps for the iPad. Started with MobileMouse which works great for controlling the Mac, and also works great for controlling a Windows 7 box. Except that in the case of Windows 7, after any update from MS, it quits working and has to be re-installed. Major PITA as the Windows box is my HTPC. Also, MobileMouse doesn't mirror the desktop at all which is a minor issue.

So then tried out Air Display. This one works very good at extending the desktop for Mac and Windows boxes and will mirror the Mac screen, but not Windows.

Now I've got SplashTop. Very much better! Mirrors the screen of whichever computer you tell it to attach to, no screen extension that I can find. But that is what I was looking for. Cost is $4.99 for the iPad app, the 'server' applications for Windows and OSX are free.

So if you need to extend your desktop to the iPad, Air Display is the one to use. But for mirroring the desktop, SplashTopRemote is the one to seriously consider. If you need both, get both. But you have to turn off AirDisplay's server, or SplashTop's server if you want to use the other one. The two servers won't coexist and allow connection. Note both use wifi to connect.

I use VNC on my computer and Veency (must be jailbroken) on my iPad. The computer is then displayed on my iPad and I can control the computer from my iPad.

I'll take a screen capture of this current display on my iPad and post it in the next post

I use Logmein on all my machines. (Logmein.com) Its FREE, Secure and works very well.

If you use it a lot there is an app you can buy called LogMeIn Ignition which speeds things up greatly on your iphone / ipad.

I was told that LogMeIn required internet access to function. The ones I mentioned don't.

Thanks for confirming that.

I don't need something outside of my home network to be involved. I'll use SplashTopRemote much more than anything else 'cause it is very good and well, I already paid for it!! :)

Logmein works great for me too. Can't complain about the price-

DK- Yes, we are on the same page now, the wifi limit I referred to is based on the wifi technology on the phones, not the technology itself. I don't know about a million but it sure has a large enough capacity at 254 IP's per router to satisfy most homes. I'm up to about 30+ devices in the home now, but not all are pounding the net at the same time. I have my router restricted to 50 connections. As for the mobile ISP's we need to start pushing for a family account for data plans, not just the voice minutes.

Anyone using a Linksys E2000 Wireless-N with their Sling Adapter? If so I could use some setting info. I hooked mine into a Siemens dsl/modem, and it made my playing terrible, both on i-Pad and PC.
Where are you viewing from and how is each device connected to your router?

It's working now, simple matter of selecting the new wifi connection in i-Pad. The Linksys E2000 really works good, much better then the Siemens router/modem.

Lots of rumors hitting today about the new iPAD2:

Faster processor, webcam, video conferencing, thinner and lighter to name a few. I have not heard anything about built in CDMA with LTE capability but CDMA only has been confirmed for Verizon release only. Simultaneous release of AT&T GSM version with SIM card access. All rumors but said to be very reliable sources from the mfg site. The ipad 2 went into production today and I expect to see some espionage leaks soon. The official announcement is supposed to happen in a small event scheduled for Feb 13th. Price structure to be same as orig iPAD.

Look for big sales of existing ipad inventory as retailers look to move stock. Bundling will be key here. A bundle deal from Verizon was how I bought my second ipad in December.

I am really curious what "lighter" means to them; a 10" tablet with close to the same weight at the Tab would be quite impressive to me. As it is the Moto Xoom is coming in at 730g, similar to the ipad 1.

I don't think the two camera thing matters much; I have used the camera on my tab only to test it out. Just not a priority.

The most disappointing part about the rumor was that there is no improvement in the unit's display.

I kind of thought one of the strengths of the ipad was its display - when I have played with them, I've thought the screen was very very crisp. What exactly would make it better? Are you looking for full HD resolution?

Screaming brand new capacitor.
