Anyway to record VOD?

Last night i tried to rent Ironman in 1080p it did its normal test to make sure i had a 1080p tv and then the confirm rent option appeared. after i rented the movie instead of it automatically playing i got the dvr menu where it asked me to create a timer for the event. at the time of renting it was 630pm and the dvr said it was gonna record it at 11pm the same night. when i got up i check to see if the movie was recorded and it was not. it didnt even show up in my rental history. after contacting dishnetwork they said something must have went wrong with the rental on their end and nothing was rented or charged, but still leaves me wondering why the dvr automatically tried to create a timer for this.

today i again rented the movie and this time it did play after renting it but this time the dvr said it could not record a VOD program. why did it think it could the night before and not now.

is it possible to record VOD material???

I thought VODs were already on the receivers HD and once purchased, it was available for 24 hrs once you started your first viewing. When you watched it, were you able to use dvr functions like pause, re-wind, skip ahead, etc? Do you know if the other outputs were functioning so that you could have recorded it to an external dvd recorder or VCR?

I purchased the 1080p version of I Am Legend when it was introduced for $2.99 and it was available for 24 hours. I was able to record a really good (480) anamorphic dvd while it was available.

It is recorded and you have access to it for 24 hours.

I have no idea about the timer foul up. Sounds like a one time deal.

is there anyway to save it then if thats the better word to use, yes you are correct i did have access to it for 24 hours.

No. Think about it. They go out of their way to tell you that you can view it for 24 hours for X dollars.

Would that make any sense if you could click a couple buttons on the menu and view it forever?

Blockbuster has one price for X days rental and another price to buy a permanent copy.

The studio or distributor that owns the rights to a movie takes a large chunk of what Dish gets for a day's rental. But they demand a lot bigger chuck change for the sale of a copy.

Would they allow Dish to sell 24 hour rentals and make it just matter of clicking a button or two for the customer to own it forever?
