I was on the tech support line about my Voom channels last night being all mixed up and in the wrong locations I was making small talk about mepg4 and I asked what the plan was for it.

He mentioned that locals in their top 5 markets would be in March after the new satellite goes up and in mpeg4. I asked about new HD in January and from then on and he said that the new HD in January looks like it will be in both Mpeg4 and Mpeg2 for a while until more mpeg4 boxes become available.
Again, I am just passing on what I heard. Making no claims to accuracy.

Personally, I see no reason for the new channels to be offered in both MPEG-2 and MPEG-4. However, I do find it interesting to hear HD LIL won't be showing up until March since I felt January was overly optimistic.

Yeah, it didn't make any sense to me either. Pick one and be done with it. Only thing I can think of is for customers like me who will not get a mpeg4 receiver until they have a mpeg4 dvr and they don't wa
nt to create some backlash.

Hmm air the HD channels in 1200 x 1080i in MPEG2 and tell people if they want full 1920 x 1080i they need to upgrade to MPEG4.

Sounds actually kind of smart. (Which is why they probably won't do it this way) :D
