Anyone else want to repay Iceberg?

oopss...missed the standalone part.
I keep telling myself to get one of those, but since I got the integrated DVR's, I find I hate even messing with the VCR (setting 2 timers for one show). Was glad to get rid of that setup when I got the 5900.

One of these days I'll bite the bullet and get a DVD recorder (with built in HDD to DVR with), but would like to see the dust settle with dual standards first.

We're nearly 2/3rds of the way thru 2005 and he still is living with a VCR! :shocked

I'm old school. I refuse to get a DVD recorder for now.

As Derwin said, for $700 to get a PVR? No thanks, I'll stick with my VCR.

I did have a PVR at one time. I had a Dish 508, and yes it was nice to store stuff to the hard drive, but I had heard horror stories of people losing their recordings. Sold it 3 months later

Lets put it this way...when I recorded (PVR'd) UMD hockey games, I STILL had a tape backup going.

As for a DVD recorder, I don't want to lose my recordings because the DVD got scratched or something. I've got 10 VCR's that would be considered "active" and 3 in mothballs (and one BETA). :)

I have 5 vcr's so your not alone Iceberg, I also have a directv dvr and a stand alone dvd burner. I usually burn my dvd's from the dvr because I got a bad batch of dvds once and recorded a movie and it would only play half way through so I agree about the tape back up for important recordings.

OK so I'm not crazy :)

been there, done that, got the coaster...
I've also had problems where they'll play on some DVD players, but not others.

Beta is far from "Old School", damn near prehistoric!!!

Got a BETA top loader...no remote available (big push down buttons)
Got a JVC top loader....only records and plays SP tapes
Top loader Sears I think...$2.99 at Goodwill :)
Two Panasonic professional machines with wired editing station...SP only :)

I'm old school

If someone wanted to really make sure they didnt lose their recordings they could have two Dish DVR's record the same things at the same time or have a second standalone DVR or PC DVR just in case something happens.

Anyone else want to repay Iceberg for the help he has provided so many of us?

Iceberg is priceless (way above the Visa Card) and can't be repaid.
My wife, who is not in any forum, whenever she sees me reading the posts, her first question "What Iceberg had to say today?"
So thanks to Iceberg and all other priceless buddies :)
