Any way to get a free Dish 500?

My parents have been DISH customers since 1996. They still have their original Model 4000 receiver and Dish 300 antenna. She pays annually for Top 200, and it's renewal time. When looking at the channel list, she realized that there's numerous channels (on the 110° satellite) in the package she doesn't get.

She just called them up to ask why those channels don't show, and they want $60 to install a 500 so she can receive the rest of the channels in her package. Doesn't sound like the right way to treat an 11 year customer.

I'm trying to get her to switch to DirecTV, as she could get everything installed for free (yeah I know, new customer is different than existing). Plus D* has her local channels, with E* she's stuck with AAD. But she's apprehensive about learning a new system. You know how older people can be.

Is this something she should try the ceo@echostar for? Or does she just need to be more forceful with the CSR's? If E* would just ship her the 500 I could install it the next time I'm up there. Does that sound like too much to ask as a longtime customer?

If you are in Iowa I have a Dsih 500 with LNBS that you can have :) Otherwise, try CEO and see what they say. I would think she could upgrade. They usually have some good deals - it used to be called dish - n - it up. Not sure if it is still called that.

Try dropping the programming package back to AT100 for 6 months that will save the $60 DISH wants to charge and I don't think you will lose any channels seeing you haven't been getting the 110 satellite.

ceo is your best option. These days, there are so many phone reps, that they all follow the guidelines exactly, it's hard to get exceptions from them. (The one exception might be Technical Support, by the way.)

They offered Free Dish 500's with Free Installation to existing customers on several previous occasions - it is an odd twist that you would have to pay for the same thing years later...

I was going to say steal it, but I guess that is wrong... =) Seriously she might just try calling back. If your facts are right about her history (which I'm sure they are) they should give her the upgrade for free.

Or it looks like if she agrees to a committment they will do it free:

Thanks. I looked around the site and somehow missed that. Like I said, she pays annually so I don't think the commitment will scare her. I guess that's a shipped price? It doesn't really say whether installation is included or not. Not a big deal either way as I'll probably make it up there for Mother's Day.

I guess I'll call and get her account info and see what shows up on the online account screen.

Well no matter what I try there's no way to add that free Dish 500 upgrade to their account on the website, even though it says you should be able to. The CSR's are clueless about it too. I just fired off an email to CEO, I'll post the gist of the reply when it shows up.

I think that is actually the installed price, but I'm not 100% sure. Heck upgrade her to a DVR and they'll do the 500 install free too (as long as she agrees to the commitment).

I've tried to get them to upgrade to a DVR and they don't want any part of it. I think my Mom is afraid that my Dad (who's confined to a wheelchair) would fill the thing up with programming and she'd never get to watch any of her shows.

I got a reply from CEO and they're willing to do the upgrade for free with an 18 month commitment. I'm not sure if that's installed or shipped as they won't complete the work order until "the account holder" calls them. I'm in the process of forwarding the information to my Mom. Hopefully she'll be able to complete the upgrade order without getting confused.

Like the other thread going on says - the CEO address gets results!
