In the past 3 week Dish Network has uplinked over 100 HD channel. Sure the majority of them are local channels but they are STILL HD channels.
So to me Dish DID make good on adding a lot of HD channels in April. Of course out of those 100 HD channels they did uplink only 3 of them were national HD channnels. Would I personally want to see more national HD channels? Hell ya.
I know Dish is currently testing ESPNNEWS HD, TOON DISNEY HD and DISNEY HD and I have heard that these channels could be here as soon as Friday (although I personally wouldn't expect to see them before next Friday since the testing just started on them)
If you are a fan of any of those three channel you will be happy, but if your not your going to gripe that they are wasting space by adding crap. Hell I know I will see some folks posting (and being serious) griping about the fact that Dish Network does not carry QVC HD.
Everyone will have a different opinion of what good HD channels are and what HD channels they want.
I have said it before but I will say it again, HDTV is like sex, you always want MORE!
Did Dish Network put up a lot of HD in April? For some 100 channels is a lot for a company to put up (and its a lot of work to put up that many channels in that amount of time) but for others the only thing they can see are that 3 HD channels were added in April.
No matter which way you see it you are both correct, its like the glass if half full or half empty depending on how you look at it.
Now as far as you deciding to leave Dish for DirecTV, that is something YOU must decide, do whats best for YOU. And don't let me stop you.
At the beginning of April lthe majority of posts about HD were about USA and SCIFI, many of those folks were going to jump ship are now happy because they finally got what they wanted. Will Dish have your favorites soon? Thats hard for me to say, and honestly I think its hard for Dish to say.
The rumor is that Dish is getting ready to relaunch EVERY channel they carry in MPEG4 with the "Eastern Arc" Project. There is a lot of work being done in prep to get this up and ready, its a huge and amazing undertaking.
Understand I am not making excuses for Dish, I personally think they were dumb not to launch USA and SCIFI when they first uplinked them last year. Why did they sit on them so long? The issue has never been space as the space was clearly available. The holdback also had nothing to do with AMC14 as these channels were uplinked so long ago on the 110 satellite.
Finally some folks do not like me posting rumors. I am sorry to say that if you don't like me posting rumors then don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. We do something here that no other site does and I have no intention of changing that. If something is labeled as a rumor then take it as that a rumor. I will keep my ear to the ground and will continue to report what I hear. In addition I will continue working to bring you things that no one else does, including coverage of Team Summit and putting SatelliteGuys members face to face with folks from the satellite companies.
With that said, there are interesting time ahead and I hope everyone will stick with us so you can read it here first hand instead of reading it someplace else days or weeks later.
I am proud of SatelliteGuys and I am proud of where we are headed.
