This is on a family PC, one that my wife and kids use. I have Norton but I'm considering changing, Norton does seem to be a bit demanding on my PC. Any thoughts or input?

Ones I'm considering are:
Trend Micro PC Cillin
Nod32 (Wasn't familiar with this one but seems to be popular)
AVG
Avast

TIA

I'm using the CA AV that SBC/Yahoo! gives to their DSL customers. You might want to look at them as well.

A third vote for AVG, its great, doesn't hog resources, and its saved me many sleepless nights. I've downloaded stuff that has virii in it and AVG catches it right at the end of the download before I have a chance to open/extract the virii.

For a low footprint and killer reliability I have sworn by nod32 for going on 3 years now.

It isn't free but it isn't expensive either.
