Any help would be appreciated.

I live in ZIP 47909. I have been using a TERK 55 in my living room to get local channels (all 2 of them) Today I had to take it off the wall and stand it on it end against furniture to get the Colts game. It is time to get a better one.
Most of the stations I want to receive are ~ 40 miles away.

I have a 2 story home. middle of corn fields. no trees or obstructions.

I am looking at the Winegard 8200u. Is this overkill? would I need a rotor or preamp? (if so what is recommended)

I am considering a tripod mount on top of roof with a 5 foot pole. Is this reasonable?

Could I use a diplexer with my hd sat signal, or should I run a separate line?

Sorry for all the questions, but I cannot find any specific info in my research today.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
dan

You have three VHF stations (2 CBS and 1 NBC), the rest are UHF.

I'd recommend two antennas instead of the 8200 (probably cheaper anyway).

Get a VHF - High yagi such as the Winegard YA-1713 and combine it with either an Antennas Direct 91XG or 43XG for UHF.

To combine, you might try a CM 7777 pre-amp. Since you are aimed away from channel 11 you might get by with it without overload. If it overloads you'll have to use a passive combiner and maybe a Winegard HDP-269 pre-amp.

I think the only fly in the ointment here is whether the CM or Winegard pre-amp is used.

Anybody else have any ideas?

I'm thinking danholbrook may get by without any amplification if only 1 TV will be used.(especially with the antennas recommended by Jim5506) If multiple sets are connected some type of amplification will be required. I like the Winegard HPD-269; but some type of FM trap may be needed depending on the proximety of the 3 FM local stations.

I assume you are trying to get Indy locals in Lafayette even though Lafayette is their own dma. Get the Winegard HD8200U and a Winegard Ap8275 preamp, this will definetly work, put it up on a tripod and run a separate coax, I have this antenna and it performs great.

FYI~Another Charlotte station goes the way of HD!
