And to think I lost more hair.
I have seen this symptom before in the past week or so(bouncing quality that is.)
Anik F3 has a powerful signal over North America. Regardless whether you can lock and view these channels, you definitely should be able to receive a decent RF signal from the satellite. the receiver should scan in ch 998 on that tp.

I can't get these channels and I manually entered the audio PID, video PID and the PCR. It's probably because I am using a Viewsat Max.

Enter the transponder in the search menu and see if you get a signal on that transponder setting. If you have a signal it should come in. If it says 0 on signal or very low then the receiver will probably not go that low. The only 2 receivers that I have been able to get these to work on are the Openbox S9 and the Coolsat 8000.(coolsat has no audio). Struck out on a few others.
I don't have the savy of most of you on this site,but all i know is i'am watching those channels now on an old dish 300/500 with the old circular lnb,set on 11250! Oh yea OpenboxS9.

Not surprising. You've got the right LNB (circular) for this tp though, technically, the tp at 12.185 GHz is outside the 12.2~12.7 GHz DBS band which the Dish LNB is designed for.
Maybe some are curious about what i mean by a dish 300/500, i just changed the deflector off a dish 500 and put it on a dish 300,holes matched perfectly no mods required. As they always say bigger is better!

The motor was a loaner I was training on and I had no big dish to play with.
The legacy 500 would only mount on a dtv 18" bracket, not dish 300.
Lnb arm distance was fine,quality was in the 90's at that time for circular sats.
Lnb was dtv type out of the plastic case.
That was my first attempt playing with motors.

Do you have manual pid entry on the Max? Do you have any signal in the setup menu on the transponder in question? See if you have a signal on that transponder. Do you have a circ lnb?
There is no signal on that transponder at all. I did put it the pids manually. I think maybe my receiver doesn't do h264?
Owner's manual says it does support h264 but also says it supports DVB-S2, which it definitely doesn't!
Punch in like 12385 for the transponder and if you then get a signal reading then it is most likely that the receiver will not go that low. There is a formula for calculating it I am not sure what it is but I think you subtract the LNB frequency 11250 from the transponder (12185) in this case it would be 935. I think some receivers won't do less than 950 or something. I think that is how the formula works.
My Coolsat 7000 also does not support H.264. But it can still receive a low quality reading due to the RF signal being received; it just can't receive the H.264 video so the screen is black. Since these signals are in the FTA band, your LO on a standard LNB should be set for 10750 MHz as usual: 12185 MHz - 10750 MHz = 1435 MHz. 1435 MHz is the frequency your receiver is actually tuning in its L-band of 950 to 1450 MHz.
Yea it is an 18 inch bracket, thought that the 18 inch was a dish 300 but i have been wrong before!
