Mallet should NOT be the number one regardless.
He's a good pocket passer, but if you get any pressure on him, he becomes a statue and throws the ball into the ground or intercepted.
Numerous times in the Sugar bowl it was very evident. The NFL is MUCH faster than college, if he goes, he better hope to go to a team that doesn't NEED him, ala a better team.
Showing my ignorance of college QBs eligible for the 2011 draft,after posting about Ryan Mallett,I find out about Blaine Gabbard. No matter,it looks like Tim Tebow WILL BE the franchise QB for the Broncos after all(unless the Broncos totally stink up the place next season making them the owners of the first pick of 2012 draft,then yes,they should get Andrew Luck).
Newton is a much better QB than Mallett. I don't know how many times Mallett has thrown into coverage when pressured in a close game...thrown the game away. You could see it coming in the Sugar Bowl based on his history in the SEC. Newton can throw from the pocket and throw under pressure, and he's a much better runner. I would see him going above Mallett in the draft.
I haven't heard much about Locker this year like I did last year. I think his stock may have dropped some, I'm not sure.

I disagree.
Of all things that it takes to become a successful pro-QB, it's accuracy in college that usually translates to the pro level. Most other things can be taught. You can teach Mallet to get rid of the ball quicker. He's as accurate of a QB that I've seen in a while though.
Expanding on my theory that of all telling stats in college, completion percentage is the most important in forecasting how well a QB translates at the pro-level.
Cam Newton: 67.1% completion percentage in 2010
Ryan Mallet: 64.7% completion percentage in 2010
Blaine Gabbert: 63.4% completion percentage in 2010
Jake Locker: 55.4% completion percentage in 2010
After further review, it looks like Cam Newton has the best completion percentage among the top QB prospects. And coincidently enough, I'd rank them in this very order...

Completion percentage, while important, is not the be all end all ... if your a college qb and your in a system that doesn't. Do much more than dump the ball off, then your % will be much higher than it really is.
Really depends on what type of offense you run.
