OK
Not too bad but I think it would hurt them both if they were to go over that. Most people game on consoles due to it's cheaper than PC to where your hardcore gamers are PC Gamers. Heck I do some gaming on my X-Box but most of it on my PC and $400 is just about what I pay for video cards. I do most of my gaming on the PC and very little on the X-Box or console just depends on what you can afford. So $400 might be a ok starting point but I think they will have to come down really fast to get the people to upgrade right away. That is if either consoles are this much again the so called experts or analyst for most part have no more of a clue than anyone else. Especially when many of them never deal with this things in the real world so most time it always just a guess when it comes to many of them.

I fully expect them to be that much, and I fully expect to sit this round out until they drop significantly.

I have not really kept up with the rumors on these. What can one expect them to do that you can not already do with the current gen of systems?

Yeah I think they will be around that price but overtime I think they will come down.

I'm thinking $350-400 is going to be the entry price for the new xBox. I wonder if M$ will be using Intel Haswell for this or sticking with 22nm Ivy Bridge. One of the tech briefs I read said a 4-core, 16-thread CPU. Intel has nothing like that out now and it isn't in their outlook for the rest of 2013. The only thing that comes close are the mobile i7 parts, like the 3720QM. Those aren't cheap.

GPU will most likely be an AMD HD 8000M. There are 11 parts under the 8000M umbrella with the TOP 3 parts being re-brands of the 7800M. The 8900M Mars parts haven't been announced yet. Even if the GPU is the 8870M with 640 cores, that is quite a bit more than the 48 cores ( 16 x 3-way ) in the R400. I'm pretty sure M$ will stick with 1920 x 1080 for games since this is a console that will probably be connected to a HDTV 99% of the time. You don't need a lot of GPU horsepower for that and the 2GB of VRAM will be more than enough for the textures. They might even go with an 8850M. Only difference there is lower GPU clocks.

It will come with a BD drive and probably a 1 TB hard drive. 4GB of DDR3 will probably be standard.

1) $350 = White, one controller, 1 TB HD, 4 GB RAM, BD drive, 1 game.

2) $400 = White, two controllers, 1 TB HD, 8 GB RAM, BD drive, 1 game.

3) $500 = Black, two controllers, 2 TB HD, 8 GB RAM, BD drive, 2 games.

4) $600 = Black, two controllers, 2 TB HD, 8 GB RAM, BD drive, 3 games, Kinect 2.

^^^^^^^ I'm just guessing here.

I can see support for 4K/8K UHDTVs since they will be coming to market this year. It may not be announced initially, but could be enabled 1-2 years down the road when it makes sense.

I made the mistake of buying a PS3 when it first came out and the only thing it's used for is to play Blu-rays and stream Netflix.

Guilty......., and it doesnt get much use for either of those lately as we dont rent discs that often, and other devices have taken over streaming duty.

It may see an increase in use however as I have seen some interesting exercise games for use with PS Move that my wife is interested in as a changup to her normal workout routine.

That is why we bought ours as well. I don't look at it as a mistake on my part though. We wanted a BD player at the time and the PS3 was the best BD player on the market at that time. I knew I would never play a game on it. To this day, I have only played one game one time.

We use it every week to watch BD and during the summer we use it everyday to watch MLB.TV through the MLB APP. Too me it was a very good investment.

I bought the PS3 when it first came out, and I do not regret it. I used it for a long time as a Blu-Ray player. It was the only one that would always reliably play a BD. Now it is powered off in case I need it again.

And you can't Fold @ Home on the PS3 anymore, either. :(

If you don't use your PS3 for anything besides Blu-ray you are doing it wrong. There is a lot of great exclusive content on the console, and this is coming from a PC gamer.

With custom firmware it is definitely the most customizable. It's a lot like PC gaming when you put a SSD in the unit and hook up an external HDD to it to load all your games on. Can't customize the hard drives like that with an Xbox 360.

The 3D functionality is also excellent. I've been very impressed how well the 3D works in Sony's conversion of older catalog titles like Shadow of the Colossus. Nothing like climbing up one of those beasts and having the spikes and platforms sticking out at you.

Of course, the PS3's graphics are terrible, but it is a 7 year old PC after all.

I expect them to be $599 for the highest SKU, with lower options available as well. Sony can't afford to lose money on another console the same way they did on the PS3.

Ours has mostly been a BD player, may just take it and the handful of games I do have down to Gamestop the next time they've got a +50% toward trade-in or whatever sale.

I think history of consoles bears this out as well. Sure, the hardcore gamer will buy them on day one or within the first week, but the casual gamer will keep their "old" console for another year or more, waiting for the prices to drop, before considering upgrading.
