I don't think he will EVER "open it up"...The Vest version of "opening it up" is a couple of wrinkles here and there.....
It's not that simple. It seems like Tressel goes into the game with plans to open it up, and does in fact open up with some early plays to take advantage of the team's strengths, and to throw off the defense.
But as the game goes on and the pressure mounts, Tressel falls into his pattern of doing what is safe, especially in a close game. I get the feeling he has 'opening it up' plays in his arsenal, but throws them out the window in the second half.
