An Instillation Question...

Hello all,

First post, I am new to the site, but I have had Dish for 18 months now and I really like it. But I have an Instillation question...

I would like to add a 2ed Dish 501/508 DVR to an adjacent room TV. The Dish people told me I would have to buy one. I don’t understand that because I didn't pay for the first one. I should have had them hook up the other rooms if I know that I would get those free at the start of the contract, but would have to pay if wanting to add one later.

Anyway, I will be buying one but want to try to hook it up myself. Is there a way to use the same wire and split it? Or, do what they did with the 1st room, used the old cable wire (unsure how)? If so, how can I do that on my own simply? Or should I add a wire to the Dish and drill a hole into the room from the outside? I do not know much about this stuff (electronics are not me) but after I buy a new DVR I do not want to pay another $100 for them to use the same wire that is there which will probably take 10mins for them. I wait 3 hours for them to be there 10mins! Do you think I should just pay the fee OR can I try myself?

Thank you all,
~~Theresa~~

Welcome to SatelliteGuys:welcome There are no splitters, but there are switch's. Depending on your Lnbs on your dish you should be able to hook another coax up and run to the other room (RG6) you will need to attach the cable to the house. Be better off to have an installer do it though as he will/should have all the tools needed.

Yeah - "(electronics are not me)". This stuff is not hard, but DOES require an interest in learning what things are what. If you're NOT interested in spending at least that "3 hours" in learning, then just have a pro do it.

A little more information would be helpful. What do you have now 1 receiver or more than one? You post you want to add a second 501/508 DVR you do know both of those models are discontinued and all DISH is selling is remanufactured units that have come off their lease program. Call DISH and ask about their Dishing it up promotion for existing customers.
