An Important Note About The Ads

1. Scott use to seem to not want to give up the income stream of the future by using the Lifetime Member.
2. By using extended membership drive two things are accomplished:
A. No forever loss of income by giving up Lifetime Member, yes it is a good deal for us but not for long term of Satellite guys, which Scott has mentioned before that it was the reason for not desiring to use Lifetime Member.
B. By allowing to stack years of membership, allows for economic boost of immediate proportions, but doses not remove future income stream. Also allows for fixed income people to help and win by getting future years of membership.
I always use this link. Works good. Donate See post #52.

I think / hope those of us that are Lifetime Members continue to donate from time to time .... it doesn't have to happen yearly at the same time now though.
And the same for Supporting Founders. I’ve been donating fairly regularly for all the years that I’ve been here. I donated fairly heavily to send Scott to this year’s Team Summit.

er...I mean, ditto. Just because I got in a lifetime donation doesn't mean I don't contribute from time to time when the need arises.

As I mentioned before, I have opened up Lifetime Pub Memberships available again.

I was going to do it yesterday... but I am on vacation which means doing work around the home, so I never got around doing it. (I have done so much work at home during my vacation that I am going to need a vacation from my vacation. Lol!) :)

Getting back to the topic of this thread, lately I have noticed that ads appearing in the last post on the page will often cover up the signature and/or the Like button. So, if I want to Like the post, I have to click on the X to close the ad. When it gives me the option, I have been reporting to Google that the ad is covering content. Is this the correct procedure? I don't want to get the site in trouble with Google again.

I am seeing the ads covering the bottom of the posts while using Firefox on a Windows 10 PC, so it is possible that others are not seeing this issue.

and sticking with the topic of the thread, you would have none if those issues if you simply supported the site that you spend so much time on... Supporters get no ads at all. :)

True, but then I wouldn't be able to notice and report any problems with the ads. ;) I spend so much time here that I must be helping the site rake in plenty of money already, just by viewing the ads. :D

But when you see issues with the ads why not report those directly to staff instead of Google? Scott is in a better position to get these issues corrected than you are.

The posts in messages are not google ads by default. However google ads may be shown there by the other ad agency. So I wouldn't report them to Google.since they will just come in and see the code is not theirs.

Posting here would be the correct way to report the issue.

I have not seen any ads covering text, next time you see something like that happen please post a screen shot and let us know the browser you are using so I can test it myself.

A big part of the problem is I may test and test and not see an issue, but you might as the ads are used off of things you searched and typed about (or looked at) before. So on my PC, my wife laptop died (actually power supply) so she was using mine until I got her a new power supply.... now when I see ads I see ads for ladies shoes and purses.

So a screen shot will help a lot. :)

Thanks for reporting!

One thing to check is your font size... just did a test and was able to have an ad overlap the text as I set my text to be 125% instead of 100%.

The browser is the one that is doing the layout of things when you change the font size (and does a poor job of it at least Safari did in my test) But we have no control over that as its what the browser itself is doing.

There is no real coding we do to put in the ads as this software has an ad manager, and we give it the ad code and tell it where to put it it from the selection list and it does the rest. Its nothing we are hand coding.

This is what the interface looks like.

It’s time for another lifetime. I am ready to donate
Me too! Sign me up. Open it back up for a brief period to bring in some new members.
I say do it on January 7, January 14, and January 31.
If you bring back the lifetime membership, I would be interested.
Same here.

In case you guys didn't see it, the lifetime memberships are available again.

I have opened up Lifetime Pub Memberships available again.

It might help to get more people signed up if you post that lifetime memberships are available on the home page, or maybe at the top of each sub-forum page?

I don't normally check out the support center page every day. I might have missed that the lifetime membership was available again if I had not received notification that rvvaquero had posted that info in this thread.

I just added to my Founder status by becoming a Lifetime Supporter as well. That won't stop me from donating from time to time just as I have since the beginning. I just thought that Scott could use the extra cash for upgrades made already and upcoming.

I haven't really advertised it for a reason.

I need to decide if we are going to cover DISH Network's Team Summit event which this year is being held in Las Vegas. Like last year I can not afford to go on my own, so I don't want to keep on asking folks for money as its something I feel bad for doing.

While I would love to cover DISH's Team Summit again this year, I don't want to go mainly for the reason I don't want people thinking I am getting a free vacation to Las Vegas. (Honestly Vegas is boring to me, I don't gamble, drink and the wife won't let me do hookers :D) When I got to these events believe me I work more then I work at my real job.

I haven't even looked at the costs of going to Vegas yet, but would imagine it would be a lot more then what it cost last year for Arizona. And that something I don't like. So I am still trying to decide what to do.
