... I want the ethernet port, for example, so I can add the receiver to my home network, ....
Yep, me too. That feature alone, would make me consider something besides my GeoSat microHD.
But if the FTA receiver won't share it's recordings on my network, I'm not interested in changing.

I can't speak for the 8240 but I can speak for Amiko. I have a AlienII and it is a well built machine.Never any lock ups, picks up every signal out there and the menus are fairly easy to use.The DVR function has never let me down using timers, but I have never tried daily or far out recordings, usually just a few hours ahead because I am heading out.

he biggest fault of the MiniHD is the time keeping of the internal clock. Sure, the MicroHD has some issues, but they are countered by simply leaving the unit powered on. The MiniHD loses about 5-10 minutes per day no matter how I try to counter this. I can set it to use the satellite time, which would work for 125 PBS, but I need to go to other locations too. I try to DVR quite a bit, and the time keeping makes scheduled DVR events almost impossible without constant time realignment. For this reason, if you need the DVR feature the MicroHD works much better.[/I]

if you unplug it, will the result be the same ? or does it just default to some wrong day of the year and time?

I have Amiko micro HD reciever.. questions if they can be answered..
1. Can I pre order a channel.. for example I dont want to miss a live lottery draw on another channel other than the one I am watching.. can I in any way "select" the program on the EPG to interrupt the channel I am currently watching?
2. Once I select a file to delete on the USB (file folder) can I de- select it? I went to delete a movie I recorded and when I selected it noticed that another had a X by it as well
and I couldn't seem to go back on the action.. so both got deleted!
thanks

I still find it bizarre that in our high tech environment, a simple thing like an accurate working clock is a challenge to stb manufacturers especially in a DVR/PVR.
