Open up the receiver, and make sure that the sensor in there is really aligned with the window in the front of the case. It's pretty normal for it to be off on receivers. If it's off, try to figure some way to adjust/bend it to align it without damage.

I'd agree with this. The sensor may have dropped down out of the window considering the funny angle you have to aim.
If you still suspect the remote there is an easy test you can do to "see" the IR light beam. Any digital camera, I pad, or cell phone can pick up the IR, just have someone stand in front of you with the remote and fire off a few buttons. You will see a white light blinking, then compare with a known good remote.

I did not know about this test. I did it. My remote blinks the same as all the others on every button. So that must mean that its the receiver and not the remote right? I don't suppose there is a place to order repair parts for this receiver is there?

No, no place special as it is made it china like all the rest.

I bet it is more the plastic display cover that is in front than the sensor or remote. I have ran into this with other things over the years. Take the front off and all is well. ;)

I must not have been clear, sorry. I have 3 receivers that were freezing up. Not the system as I could still navigate. But the programing being watched. After every possibility was exhausted on another thread I had started called " receiver screen freeze", and checking all equipment I have found that the firmwares seem to be culprit as all 3 receivers are based on the same ali chip-set. After upgrading the Manhattan firmware the freezing stopped. I upgraded the openbox s9 a couple times because the new firmwares brought other troubles that seem to be remedied now but still testing to see if it will freeze. I seriously doubt it will.
The Manhattan receiver rs-1933 has been replaced by sky-vision 3 times for different problems. When I got it back It was supposedly new and the remote never worked right. So to clear things up I did the firmware update to fix the screen freeze but the remote never worked correctly to begin with. Taking the advise of others of this forum, I did take it apart to see if the ir sensor was bent. It was not. I took the remote apart and even now have tested it using a camera and pressing buttons and the light works well. So the remote is not bad. I did try to use it with the plastic display cover off but there is no difference. I think the circuit board that contains the receiver sensor or the sensor itself is faulty. That is why I asked if there were parts available. As long as the openbox s9 update works out Ill be happy. I do want to replace the Manhattan with something good if its not salvageable. If being the case, I will give it away as is.

my s10 would freeze,I had to pop the lid off and put a bigger heat sink on the processor(actually alligator clips to add more metal surface area)it behaved after doing that and leaving the lid off.

REALLY?! Heat? I will look into it. I have quite a few spare pc fans. The freezing stopped on the s10 I have when I set the screen to 16:9. Sucks but it worked.
No I don't think I will be buying another Manhattan. Its like paying for a race car that is powered by a geo metro.
I would like to take suggestions for a new receiver. Possibly something that can be upgraded hardware wise and non clone as I think my s9 is one "not sure". As I understand a clone can be flashed ten times but I have done it way more than that and its not dead. I included a picture of it.
I think I would like to get something that does iptv as well as fta. I looked at openbox x5 but found it has access to porn "not cool" via iptv and I have kids.

I would buy a manhattan if it were cheaper,to experiment with euro firmwares on it.
But the lack of rs232 port would be a problem.

$99 is still too pricey for a 4 year old receiver.
they should be around $50 at this stage of the game.
I disagree. For a DVB-S2 HD receiver with a good reputation: $99 is not too much, particularly for a niche industry like FTA. We are not talking about products that sell in numbers like smartphones and tablets.

Hmmm. I don't want to risk buying another Manhattan. But I do plan to invest in better quality. Thats why I am looking for input. Such as upgradeable hardware, longevity, reviews, long list of best stbs, long list of bad. Which ones are clones and what are not. Features. Pictures. Video reviews would be better. Make it a contest. Convince me I'm all ears:popcorn

for the unemployed $99 is a big deal.
I would never spend that on a receiver that just gets true fta.

Currently I am using ku only but what you say is interesting. I would not have thought about features that are important to c-band. I am currently unemployed as well. Messed up my left knee. I think I have spent more money and time being cheap tho.
To each there own and what ever works. Still looking to hear what receivers are good and bad. Long lists.:popcorn

Huhh..? Sarcasm? The Manhattan has matured into a good, easy to use receiver and can get up to 32apsk feeds. Few receivers can get there.

so I run the manhattan firmware on my openbox s10,no big deal.Still not worth $99
must be nice to have money to burn

I've got an Amiko Alien2 and a MicroHD. Prior to these two I was using a CoolSat 6000 that I got for a song.

MicroHD
Pros:
-Locks signals almost instantly after the dish is in position, and re-locks signals if they are lost
-Can see the Signal meter outside on my TV inside (it's big)
-Push one button to see FEC, SR, and Modulation
-Blind scan is fast and finds almost everything
-Tiny
-Reasonable price

Cons:
-The RF connector on mine broke after very light use. (Note: this doesn't seem to be very common).
-No 4:2:2 (Yes, I actually use 4:2:2).
-Slow menus

Amiko Alien2
Pros:
-Navigating Menus is quick
-Two tuner ports
-Can stream 4:2:2 to PC
-Has some internet TV
-Has fast menus

Cons:
-4:2:2 streaming is flaky on my network
-Won't always relock a signal if it is lost temporarily
-Ku satellite setup with 22khz switch is time-consuming (it wants you to use universal LNBs)
-Expensive

I was not aware you could run the firmware on the open-box. I know that the chip sets are similar. Can the Manhattan run the open-box firmware?

What streaming does it do? I use a multi switch with 22k switching and standard lnbfs. Would this be a problem?
